i knwo its nto a contour, but i need some help on this one. i knwo we are supposed to shove a dowel or broomstick into the diff/trans to keep the gears from falling into the case, but which axle do we remove first???
if we remove the right side, first and then slide the stick in through that side while we rmove the left, will the gears still fall???? we have a haines, and all it says is
"Remove axle and slide dowel through openiong to secure differential gears. if this step is not performed the gears will fall to the bottom of the differential, resulting in a costly trip to your local ford dealer or authorized service center."
HELP???
car is a 1991 Escort 4dr. MTX 5 speed...ummm 192,000 miles on factory clutch...1.9L EFI motor (non DOHC)...
and whats this i see about pumoing the old dluid out the the VSS hole??? again!!!

try and find a scort forum... Even if some people here can help... Chances are you will get better feedback on a forum made for that type of car.

You know he is asking for someone to help. Obviously he is asking a pretty general question that most people that have worked on trannies could answer, so why even post useless crap. Its a waste of eveybodies time to read it. I wish I could help you but unfortunately I dont jack about trannies. But I thought I would post anyways because I am tired of seeing people here asking for help and being told to kiss off its not a contour. Or check the search engine. Hello obviously we did search first but there is so much misinformation out there, we sometimes need a straight answer.. Thank you
The right thing to do. VOTE BUSH!!!!

I wouldn;t get soo pissy about it...he right you know...there might be somethings left out if peoples desciptions.....
and he wasn;t being mean so what gives you the right to be???
And since you know nothing about transmissions, why did you post your useless crap here????
Anyways, to help you out, give Terry haines a buzz
seconline@ameritech.net
i know hes one of the designers of the contour, but he may be able to help you out with your problem more...and hes usually pretty good at getting back to people, and very knowledgeable about transmissions in general not only our cars.
if no one can help you out here, im sure he can.
Best of Luck, Lupe

if theres more bolts sook them over night with PB blaster....you can find it at kragens and Autozone.
Soak it over night....if there all borken off, you may have to drill them out and re tap the sub frame....last resord is drill it out and get a used sub frame or a new one and new bolts.
Hopefully someone else has more info.

first before you drill and retap, drill and try a set of bolt extractors with a lot of PB blaster(good stuff) that way you can save teh threads, and maybe some extra work
98.5 Black SE ATX
S&B filter, SVT MAF, optimized SVT TB, mesh grille, removed orange reflectors, painted rear reflector, gutted pre-cats, optimized SVT LIM, 19lb injectors, resonator removed
cant afford an svt but lookin for 1 in nc

Im not sure from your post what it is you are trying to do, but if can I assume from the mileage that it is the clutch, then why dont you pull the motor and leave the MTX where it is?
Unless you have a lift, it is always easer to pull the motor then the tranny on FWD Fords.
Getting back to you axle/side gear issue. I had an 86 Tempo MT5. The procedure was the same (warning about dislodging the side gear). I had the axles out and even pulled the tranny without ever dropping a gear. I would check with a quality repair manual like motors (go to your library) for more info. Chiltons and Haynes manuals contain many procedural mistakes.
jeff
have you fixed your ford lately?
