That wouldn't get through a court around here, I doubt it would up there either. Fight it. I'm sure my plate has been written down a few times (not for running stop signs, I always stop) and I haven't heard anything from the police. I know a friend had his plate written down and it didn't matter either. And one time my mom called in a plate she had written down cuz the guy was being a serious ahole/crazy driver and cops said there isn't much they can do except look for him driving during that day and stop him. And then they would probably only stop him and tell him there's been complaints, they can't really do anything unless they see it happen.

By law, a police officer must witness the infraction in order to cite you for it. You cannot be ticketed because a citizen witnessed you running a stop sign, otherwise I'd collect the plate numbers from everyone who pissed me off and claim the same thing.
Now, if he has video, there's a whole new case, as that can likely serve as sufficient evidence.

Depends on the state guys. Go talk to a lawyer. They have free consultations usually. It likely wouldn't cost that much to get it dismissed.

But wouldn't the video tape be inadmissable because the driver's did not give permission to be taped, let alone were they warned they were being video taped. I don't think it will fly. I'd definately take it to court. I admire the guy trying to help the cops, but that guy is on some kind of power trip.

likely depends on the state. In IL it would be admissible, and we have some of the toughest laws on recording/videotaping people. You are in a public place with no reasonable expectation of privacy.

Red Light Cameras...
In public, few states give you an expectation of privacy.

actually, no states do. it is a well established constitutional proceedure. you are only protected from unreasonable search and seizure.

Alot of peeps blow the stop sign. Anyway, the copy said he is giving me a ticket (114 bucks) for blowing the stop sign. I said WTF! How can that happen. I stopped (maybe a rolling stop) who is this guy to determine what a stop is.
Anyway, I just got the ticket in the mail and I am gonna fight it but what the heck is that all about.
Can someone write down plates and do that? Who is gonna show up in court? The cop or the dude? I think it has to be the dude.
Frickin' ridiculous.
That's retarded...

Only audio. Video, anybody can. Unless he has video, he has nothing. If he has video of your car with your plates and you driving, then you're done. However ALL of that has to be on the tape for them to give YOU a citation. If its just your car and your plates, then you can still get a fine since the car is registered to you, but you wont get any points, like you would if you were on the video doing it.
