anyone ever haerd the ole saying that the guy who packs his headers in ice, wins.......or something like that.....well anyways i got to talking to a chemist and physicist about this......seems that propelyne glycol is used in anti-freeze, the main ingredient actaully.....well, i now know why they use propelyne glycol and not polypropelyne glycol.....anyways my point is i heard that you can reverse the order of the way your coolant flows and have it hit the headers first then the block, in turn you have to use polypropelyne glycol, and you actually get a horsepower boost.....anyone know anything about this mod? ever heard of doing this? any input would be wonderful.....thanks

chris

Very interesting things happen (thermal shock) when you hit hit valve seats/castings with 'ultra-cool coolant'!!

would it be so much that polypropelyne glycol is ultra cool? i found that it is just a matter of that propelyne glycol has the ability to super heat, and the poly version does not superheat, therefore it can come in contact with the headers......

I think your theory has become a little mixed. You are proposing a water jacketed set of exhaust manifolds a la -marine engines correct?

You ice the intake because it's a big chunk of aluminum that the intake air goes through. If you where to "ice" the whole engine, you would warp lots-o-stuff.

Ever heard a valve pop? Get a 90 Mustang GT with open headers, drive around at WOT for about 30 minutes, then turn off the car when it's 25 degrees F outside. That cold air rushes in and hits the exhaust valve. It makes a loud pop.

If your intentions are keeping the engine cool, than removing the anti-freeze, is your best bet, unless you live in freezing climates. Fortunately for me I live in Hawaii! cool

I simply drained all my coolant out and filled the radiator with only water + a little bottle of Amsoil RM125. This thing will scrub and clean every nook and cranny of my coolant system and since I don't experience frezzing temp. there is now no need for anti-freeze.

Hey Terry I experienced thermal shock one time at the Gym. I jumped from the ice-pool straight into the jacuzzi, what a JOLT!!! laugh

POOR ENGINE!!!!!!!! laugh

Did any of you bother to look at the ingredient list on a bottle of anti freeze?
It's ethelene glycol.

Propelene glycol is the stuff that some alternative anti freeze companies (such as Sierra) have been pushing claiming that it is more environmentally friendly. Claiming that it breaks down more quickly when released into the environment and is not as toxic. It also does not have quite as good of a heat transfer ability (but close) and does not protect for freezing or overheating quite as well.

Anyway, it seems as though someone is pulling your chain.

Also, it helps to pack your intake manifold with ice, not the exhaust.
