Keep in mind, compared to a Crappalier, ANYTHING is sporty and luxurious.

Where are your facts? IIRC, the 1.8T is pratically a bulletproof engine.
Now I hate America? That is a new one to me.

Consumer Reports reliability surveys, April 2004... lots of ignition problems in the 1.8T that are not in the V6 or NA 4 cylinder. I read the coil part somewhere else.

Yes, they have quite a massive recall, but on stock internals, a 1.8T that started out putting up 150 hp can easily put up 240 hp or more, with torque to match (or more). That is pretty impressive. Folks with turbo upgrades and exhaust, etc, etc are cranking out 300 hp!!
It's an awesome engine. Kind of buzzy though. I always wanted one until I drove one putting out the 150 hp hooked up to an auto tranny! It needs a chip!

Just go to VW vortex and do a search. I don't believe that the 1.8t is such a great engine.(although it is easy to boost) I have a bunch of friends who have this engine in a bunch of different cars. Almost all of them have had a serious issue. One friend is on his second turbo in 20,000 miles and his engine eats tons of oil. When I was doing research on the crappy VW beetle I had, I found tons and tons of hate sites about the beetle and jetta/golf because of all the problems.
