Alright, thanks for all of the input guys. In the end, I liked the Passat better, it seemed faster overall and handled a little more to my liking, but she didn't really like the one we were looking at for some reason. (Women!!) She really liked the Saab, the way it drove, and the quality of the interior. Turns out though, its had a nasty ATX problem. It couldn't make up its mind between 3rd or 4th, ever. It was a weird light green color that she loved. And no other color would do... so no Saab was found either.

But, by some odd chance, she happened to really like the current Taurus. Go figure, huh? Not at all like the other cars she wanted, but whatever, those are easier to find. She wanted specifically on the Taurus:
-black exterior
-grey leather
-sun roof
-ABS
-cd player
-shifter on the floor, not the console
-power everything

My criteria:
-Duratec 3L

So I did the forddirect.com search and found exactly that car (only on in MA), and last night we went and got it from Thomas Ford in Beverly (nice guys). Its a 2001 Taurus SES, fully loaded, not one option missing, its certified, and fit in her price range. So the search is finaly done, its a very nice car, not sporting at all, but it makes her happy. And I tend to be happy when she is, so that is good. It'll be an excellent car for taking road trips in, and I'll have the SVT for myself. That makes me *really* happy

Yopu might find the Taurs has potential to make you just as happy as the SVT. You see, the backseat of the Taurus is significantly larger...

Combine you, your GF and that larger backseat and you may become *really* happy with the Taurus too.

If you don't know what you are talking about please refrain from saying anything, some turbo vehicles are much more durable than N/A motors.

Given those two options I would go with Saab. Better dealers, the parts have come down since GM took over, and probably more reliable. VW hasn't been doing so well in reliability the past few years, while the Passat has faired better than some other models, it's still not exactly great. Baco99 is pretty knowledgeable about Saab's you might want to ask him.

Did you show her an Infiniti G20? Those would fit the bill and are dead reliable.

HTH,
Pete

I find your statement halarious! must be your first USED turbo-charged vehicle

Good choice... if the Passat is anything like the new beetle I just got rid of, you would have bought the car twice in repair cost alone.

Last time I looked. It looked exactly like a SAAB from the front.

The rest is obviously WRX, but crap, if that's your only excuse, I'm not going to even bother listing the pro's of this over the Passat or 9-3. You're obviously against the 9-2X (not that I fully understand why).

If my job hadn't insisted on supplying me with a Magnum, I'd be ordering a 9-2X for myself.

How can you thumb your nose at Subaru reliability, AWD superiority, turbo-performance added with SAAB styling and reputation?

Go drive one and I bet your opinion will change!

Like I said, budget was about 10 grand. Anything new was out of the question. If I could get a new Saab I'd get the new 9-3 over the 9-2, just preference...

Oops, didn't see the budget.

For $10K I'd go VW.
