Have to rembember that this is a race engine and most of the mods would involve an engine build which is expensive to say the least.I think most people are looking for 'bolt ons' vs a ground up performance engine. Some of us have and still are, developing the internals of the Duratec but by and large my take is,most wont go that far.

Terry, I understand that they were studying the engine in a feasabilaty test for racing.[which it failed] The testing found that the engine DID NOT respond well to modifications in fact they said there was very little difference by modifying it. Sounds as if the engineers that designed the engine designed it in a way so as no amount of modifying it would make any difference in power output. That to me explains partialy why the few mods. that are avalable for the duratech doesnt produce much in the way of more power. The engine is just not as responsive to the std. mods. that other engines are.

The engine was not & is not a Ford design. It was a sub-contracted design 'out sourced' to Porsche. The first V6's were made by Porsche and made 250hp 'stoc', that original design never saw the light of day as the design was 'Fordorised' before it went into production. The Ford version has masses of potentional IF you know what was in the Posche design that gave it the power.....as some of us do!

That's an interesting statement Terry, are we looking at the same document? Page 1 clearly states "The objective of this paper is to document the study of converting a Ford 2.5L Duratech V6 to a 2.0L for Touring Car Championship competition" The people involved with the study are Pat Morgan,Ray Kach,Curt Hill,Dan Demitroff and Bruce Monroe all of the FORD Motor Co. Then there is Tom Dettloff,Wiley McCoy and Dean Battermann of McLaren Engines Inc. Am I missing something here? Nowhere is Porsche mentioned! Also on page 1 there is a DEFINITION OF THE DURATEC ENGINE, it then goes on to give a description of the engine. The description sure sounds like the Duratec's I've seen. What am I missing here? smile

Dan& Curt were on the CDW27 team at the same time I was.I can assure you the original engine design was by Porsche,I worked on the first package of that Porsche engine into the first workhorses/prototype CDW's ever built,a total of around 400 cars, the first 50 or so V6's had the Porsche motor.
