Very interesting reading but I would like to respond by saying that I do not think this has any relavence to most of us. As far as "very little difference modifying it" the phase I & II engines dynoed at about 230 HP (both were 2L) or about 115 HP/L. While not race car competative in 2L form, this is alot of HP/L. (As an asside the Capaldi Cougar guys and others have made over 300 HP from 2.5L versions, or 120+ HP/L so the limitations may be somewhat unique to the ultra short stroke 2L). The key limiting factor if I understood was shunting of intake charge to exhaust ports. I think this is probably a phenomena limited to very high RPMs (8000-8500RPMs) if Im not mistaken, not the sub 7500RPMs we are concerned with. Terry H. comment??

Several mods including the Y-pipe, many catbacks have made very good dyno proven gains. More than on many other cars. Others such as headers and MAFs may need A/F tunining to sort out the gains. A GOOD ECU upgrade would help. The article is a good lesson on flow velocity though - wonder why the big T-bodies arent working well ? Did you see the size throttle they uesed?
