What does cleaning the IAC have to do with a flashing battery light? I personally think something with the belt tensioner, but Greg already knows that.

If the belt is going to slip, it should do so under the heaviest load (after starting or with lights and wipers on).

If the idle is dropping to 500-600 rpm because of the IAC (or something else like Renee's stretched timing belt) the alternator cannot put out enough current and the ALT light comes on. Cause and effect.
