heya guys and gals,

So, after having a CEL light on for the last 2 years (came on the day AFTER I had my last smog check), I finally got my 1st bank oxygen sensor replaced and passed smog.

The interezting part was this... While I had to go to a Test Only Center, I was afraid that the inspectors would go over my car with a fine-toothed comb. HOWEVER!!!! While they did Dyno my car (at 15 and 25 mph), they did not even pop the hood (much less look under the car) to check if I had modified anything.

So, in short, if you need to Smog your car, and have modified your engine or exhaust in some way (and live in the Sunnyvale, CA area), PM me, and I'll tell you where to go.

Cheers,
Tom

I got my smog a week ago and he didn't even mention the air filter. I'm sure most could care less.

-1998.5 Contour SE V6 ATX. PM me to tell me of a welder that can craft me a modified Y pipe in the Los Angeles area! OR I may be willing to buy a 3 flange modified Y.

You guys are fortunate. Unfortunately I have been through the wringer with smog and prefer not to take any chances. Especially over something as simple as an open element filter.

It wasn't with the SVT if that's what I implied, sorry. I'm just saying i've been through hell before with smog and it's just not worth it to not pass over something that can take 5 minutes to change, compared to $30-40 for a re-test. Another tip, don't go to test only places unless it is required. If you fail at a test only place, they have to send you to the referee....it's no fun from there, trust me.

Funny you mentioned this (I pretty much had the same situation).

I got my SVT SMOG check this past June. By the time I got to the place I forgot about my open element air intake that I have on. Once the guy opened the hood and started inspecting the engine bay, I though for sure that I would fail.

Nevertheless, I don't think the guy even noticed it and I passed the SMOG check no problem (I also had a oxygen sensor problem for nearly a year prior to this that was just fixed in March).

Funny thing is, is that I haven't yet done the TH fix (copper pipe cap) and so my K&N RU-3530 was howling as loud as ever (especially in their little enclosed garage), but still no problems.

The guy was in San Carlos, if anyone wants the contact info.
