I ran that setup and I think that the CAI has a nice sound and serves a better function. I can notice a better difference with the CAI. Plus if you feel the CAI pipe after driving for any length of time, it is still cool to the touch and so is the short ram. I noticed a big difference in the temps of the intake. I am not sure how much of a temp difference there is with the UIM though. That has to be doing something for performance in my opinion.

WTF?! Are you going by your butt dyno? I've touched a few CAI pipes that can burn you after driving, where are you going with this? If you want to justify your purchase by saying you like the sound better, that's cool. But between a proper short ram and CAI setup, the short ram outperforms the CAI. If you're pulling ambient air with a short ram, you're getting better "function" than getting ambient air from a CAI. Is this hard to understand?

I am not saying the short ram is crap. Where was I going with that??? Last time I checked cooler air in the enine was a plus, so if the pipe is cool enough to touch then obviously it is grabbing cooler air. I am not saying that the CAI is superior, but in the first few weeks I have had it on it feels different, and yes I will stand by the fact that the CAI pipe is cool enough to grab. Depending on the length of driving the short ram will heat up to the point you cannot touch it. Yes the CAI has its disadvantages as stated above, and I am aware of it. Am I saying this is the best intake, no. I notice some obvious differences in the 2 setups and I think this one feels better, maybe because I am not getting heat soak??? I would love to see the difference on a dyno what my old setup produced versus the new setup.

OK guys, how about a back to back dyno comparison to settle this one. I'd like to see two different tests, one with the hood up to simulate the cars at speed, and a second one with the hoods closed to simulate off the line 60 ft response from a standing start (no air movement). I'd also like to see some numbers on line losses for the CAI tubing flowing 310 CFM (152 cubic inches at 7000 RPM at 100% VE) over the relatively short distance of CAI with it's nice mandrel bends.

There is nothing to settle, I would love to see the differences too. I am not here to sell the CAI. I was just speaking from my personal experience and I get slammed for it??? My car does not feel as sluggish as before with the CAI over my short ram and air hose setup. Whether it is a good or bad difference I think the car feels better. Maybe there was a problem with my home made heat shield or the air hose, who knows.

That's exactly what I mean...with both setups "properly" done, the short ram is superior for more hp. No need for a back to back dyno, just a little knowledge and logic. Once again, if you are pulling ambient air, you can not get any cooler than that, so the temp differences would be.....none. Are you not understanding this concept? Therefore, if a "properly made, perfectly efficient" heat shield blocked 100% of the warm air under the hood, you would be pulling 100% ambient air....chances are that your homemade heatshield was not doing this. Not to mention the length of the intake itself plays a role in the "tuning" of the air flow. If you want an example, look at our V6 intake manifold. Hence you are probably pulling a little more power under peak now, maybe mid range, instead of up top now with the CAI.

Is the 270 dollar K&N Intake worth the money? I know it has a heatshield, but i dont know if that alone is worth th extra ~100 dollars

i along with about 99% of the people on here will tell you not to waste your money on the k&n kit....you can make your own(more effective) for far less.....the best intake setup you can get is a maf adapter,a k&n ru-3530 filter, and a homemade heatshield.....do a search for heatshields, and you will find tons of examples, with pics,to get an idea of how to make it,and what to make it out of...

there is ONE guy on here that loves his k&n kit with a passion, and might just jump in here and tell us how great it is again...lol..

Where can you get th K&N with heatshield kit?(back off nazis). I don't want to have a Rubbermade garbage can under my hood.

SPmotorsports.com. You're better off having a rubbermaid trash can. The K&N could have been designed much better. The trash can can even be made to look better if you do it right.
