I understand that if you replace 17# injectors (or whatever comes in 98 svt's) with the green 19# injectors you have to let the computer know. This can be done with a chip. My question is how is this done with a chip?

Is it done by adjusting the air/fuel curves? Or is there some type of memory circuit that stores the injector size? Any help would be much appreciated.

Dude, the SVT comes with 19lb injectors.

The green 19's are for returnless systems, they won't even remotely work without changing the entire fueling system and the PCM.

Actually Lance they do work cause I have them on my car now and it runs fine. I have a 98 that came with orange top and I bought a new LIM that came with new green top injectors and I simply modified one notch on the injetors to make them fit the orange top electrical conncetors and they worked fine.

I was just wondering if the computer has a memory somewhere that says that there are 17# injectors or if it is strictly a mechaincal thing?

Your car should have already had 19's setup in a return system.

I was under the impression that the orange injectors were less pounds/hour than the green injectors. And I swaped the orange injectors out for grenn ones.

No. Both orange and green top-fed injectors found in the SVT's are 19#'s. The pre-98 SE's had orange injectors too, but they were bottom fed and only 17#'ers

but back to the question yes the ECU knows what size injectors should be in there, and if its not right, like in my case, it tells you are running rich, or lean if you went smaller??

Yes - but it's not guranteed to trip a CEL.

The diff from a 17# to 19# is just plus 11.7%, the fuel trim will not trip a CEL until +/-20ish% trim, so likely it will just pull in the mixture in and run with negative trims. It'll run funky till it pulls in the mixtures, but it does it within a couple drive cycles.

I think where people get into trouble is that the later contours run with like 50psi fuel pressure, so if they swap in a mustang 19#er that is specd in the 38ish or low 40ish psi range they will get an equivalent to a 21# or 24# (forget the exact #) injector...

I ran my car for about a year with 19# mustang injectors on my "regualr" fuel pressure system before getting a chip.
