Did you all hear what mitsubishi is doing to its EVO owners?

They are going to timed events across the country and writing down license plate numbers of who is participating that owns an EVO and voiding there warranties. They are also skimming the internet forums and voiding warranties that way. When they skim the internet they look for ppl posting about aftermarket parts installed on their cars or bragging about racing.

I read in a magazine a guy who bought an EVO went to a timed event and after 2 weeks of owning the car brought it in to get something serviced and his warranty was already voided!!

I read this in a magazine like car and driver or road/track...One of the editors of the magazine happened to own an evo, and his warranty was voided, so he took the liberty of writing an article about it...

This has been talked about before. The jist is that Mitsu is doing so poorly that they're looking for any way they can to keep themselves afloat. Someone mentioned that their warranties were a big part of the reason they're in so much financial trouble right now, so it isn't too surprising that they're pulling stunts like this. Still, word of stuff like this gets around pretty fast, and its only going to hurt them worse in the end.

i thought that the CEO of hyundai stepped down and took over Mitsu USA and the first thing he did WAS EXTEND their warranties to one of the longest possible, 5 yr bumper to bumper, 10 yr powertrain, and 3 years paid maintenance. . .

I could SEE why they're voiding warranties, they can shank on all of that $$$$$$$$$ that they'll have to spend in order to up their [censored] reputation. . .

My bro was looking at buying an Sti vs. EVO, went with teh Sti because of the crappy reputation Mitsu has and other issues (grinding synchros, rusty body, etc.). . .

And the Sti is quicker, atleast after the 1/4 mile. I bet if the EVO MR is released, if Subaru doesn't up their horsepower in the Sti, they'll atleast change the gearing to compete better with the EVO down low.

They have every right to deny warranty coverage for damage caused by racing.

I don't see what people's problems with this is. It says right in any warranty that any participation is a racing or timed event voids your warranty.

Seems to me that people are bitching because they're getting caught -- not because of the policy. The policy has always been there.

I do understand people's problems with Subaru doing the same thing; but that's only because Subaru also gives you a free membership and information on the SCCA, essentially telling you to do something that will void your warranty.

It makes no sense to build a very fast car like the evo then tell people not to legally race it. What else would you need close to 300hp? And I also hate that they try to void your warranty because of aftermarket modifications. Most mods are better than what the car came with. Not all mods kill your car.

LOL.

"This here 271hp engine will last you as long as you don't use the 271hp"

Does the same rule apply to Cobras, Corvettes and Vipers?
