My mom drives a Saturn and I have no clue what model, engine size, weight it is. I just remember hanging my head when she told me she bought it.

Perhaps, then, I am not typical of 'most' car enthusiasts...I guess I've been shooting for a higher standard by assimilating a broad range of car-related facts, figures, and technical highlights for some odd 14 or 15 years now.

The fact that when the slushboxed-only Saturn LS2/LS300 first came out it could almost touch the straight line performance of the SVT-C even with its relatively untapped, untuned 3.0 Litre V6 tells me that there is some potential there and worth at least one raised eyebrow, even if the looks could get only a Frigidair to breathing heavy.

It's not that I really care about it so much as I just like to know about things like that. . But, hey, suit yourself...I suppose a broad knowledge base is a lost cause these days.

You do realize that theoretically, if the SVT-C's 2.5 was to match the displacement of that 3.0 that it would be at 240hp and very capable of mid 14 second passes easily, as with the increase in displacement, comes an increase in torque as well....A lot of people talk down about the SVT's power ouput, but fail to see that it is quite impressive for a mere 2.5 liters, almost Honda efficiency. Hell, look back at the Fox Body 5.0 Mustang for god's sake, we can say the SVTC can almost touch that AND it is literally half the displacement.

Yes, I'm very familiar with the specific-output bench-racing mantra...it's been around for quite a while, a bit tired, and you're wasting your keystrokes on me if you think I'm learning something new here.

I beseech you to point out where/if I have talked down on the SVT's output. To the contrary, even though I no longer have it, I continue to praise the H.O. Duratec's specific-power when the opportunity arises in certain circles here at work.

Well, I assumed that most 'car guys' stay on top of things and have a general awareness of the types and sizes of cars offered by most automakers -- particularly in the case of a Saturn LS since it's a sub-mid-sizer of similar weight and grunt to the Contour line. If I have assumed wrongly, and you don't have this general awareness I speak of or keep abreast of most carmaker's offerings, then I offer my sincerest apologies.

FWIW, I didn't know its weight off the top of my head...but it was easily found on Edmunds.com after half a minute or so. You might try it sometime.

I'll let your ignorance and short temper speak for themselves.

You are right, I am not a "car guy" I should be more familiar with Saturns LS car line. My post might have been a little ignorant to boot. But isn't it also ignorant to assume that "car guys" should have knowledge about every vehicle from every manufacterer or even care to know for that matter.

um well if you call a half to a full second almost touching something then ok...you do realize that a fox body 5 liter 5 speed is a mid 14 second car STOCK...and a stock csvt runs in the 15's...i don't really see how that is almost touching it....

I'm hoping you're not learning something new, I'm just pointing out that you are comparing a 3L to a 2.5L. If the displacement were even, the SVTC would come out WAY ahead. It just sounded to me as if you were saying the Saturn was almost just as much of a performer as the SVT, despite the obvious displacement..displacement. And to clear it up, I was not implying nor stating that you had talked down to the HO Duratec.

ChrisilverSVT, I was merely pointing out that a stock SVTC is, VERY nearly, capable of hanging with a Fox 5.0. There are roads longer than a 1/4 mile and not all races are from a dig... The fact that the high to mid 14 sec car is RWD and the low to mid 15 sec car is a heavy, FWD car kind of evens things out on the road....

Ignorant? Ahhh, no. Expectations too high? Probably. I now know to lower my expectations of certain enthusiasts' bandwidth. Truth be told, half the effort in staying informed isn't necessarily having information on the tip of the tongue, but knowing were to go to find it. The few seconds spent coming up with speculations of '2500 pounds' and 'tin foil' would have been better served finding real answers on Google or Edmunds, with time to spare.

My apologies to anyone reading this thread for getting us off-topic. We are way, way off in the weeds and I never intended my concise factual corrections to spur a volley of spastic, retaliatory responses.

Perhaps we can get back on track now...

Obviously someone who missed the point.

Blk560, while I consider myself a car enthusiast, I'm not too "enthusiastic" about Saturns, just not my cup of tea. You seem knowledgable enough to realize a good car, in your opinion that is, so I have no beef with that. As anyone does, you are defending the cars you have liked for one reason or another, it happens to everyone. Back on topic I guess, but I fail to see a worthy topic other than this one in the thread, other than the factory freak discussion.

I have a low compression 3L SVT.

Where is the custom tuned 3L Saturn to race me???

I hope the modifications can make up over 2 seconds though.

Even my tuned 2.5L with just bolt ons was well over 1 second faster. Surely the 3L Saturn with bolt ons and tuning could catch that right?

I mean 182/190 from a 3L is stellar numbers. Well for 80's maybe...
Yes I agree it's probably a bit under rated considering.

I bet the wife's Cavalier would be a good match for it though...

2000 SVT #674 13.47 @ 102 - All Motor! It was not broke; Yet I fixed it anyway.
