Granted, the "factory freak" variance is not going to account for half a second on the 1/4 mi. You did look at the list of mods on that car too, right? And I'm sure there might have been a few mods he didn't tell me about or that I don't remember.
Factory freaks come about because of loose tolerances in the manufacturing process. Sometimes they stack up, sometimes they don't. I call my SVT a "factory funk" because I don't think the tolerances stacked up very well on it. If you don't believe in factory freaks, tell me how my wife's Saturn has run a 15.61 @ 88.49, with a 2.442 60'? BONE STOCK. That was the same day I ran my 15.59. And she ran 15.624 @ 88.44 that same day, just so you don't think it was a leaf blowing in front of the timer or something.
Also, now that all this has been brought up about driver skills, I feel I must qualify my crappy E.T. First of all, when I say that it was good weather, I don't necessarily mean GOOD weather for drag racing, just the best I have had when running the 'tour. Temperature was around high 70's, and it was humid (as it seems it always is here in Ohio). My SVTC was bone stock except for a SHO shop hot air intake , and I'm sure the fact that my front end seems to sit higher than the back has something to do with the bad 60' (I have gotten plenty in the 2.3's, lowest being 2.311). I'll post some times after I get new springs & struts under it, hopefully very soon.
