Not Really. I installed a aftermarket intake on my 96 Tour and it did not hurt the gas mileage or motor at all. You want the motor to suck in more air. But if you do add a intake I suggest adding a exhaust system as soon as possible. They both work together, if the motor is sucking in more air then the exhaust needs to blow more air out.
