Well, the transmission started shifitng funny and had the O/D light started blinking with a code. I took it down to the tranny shop and it's the second and fourth gear blown out (ATX) on my '98 Contour SE w/78,000 miles on it. I know it's a little premature for this failure, but the car has been driven by my two teenage sons...enough said. So, since the repair far outweighs the value of the car, it's off to "Cars for Causes" where I can donate it and take a tax write off. I am not really interested in selling the car, or it's parts. The main reason for the post is to say "thank you" to everyone for your help. I am a great believer in Contours, I have owned four total. To bad Ford does not sell a car as fun to drive as the Contour!

Sure they do, Check out the focus. Im sure you will love it. a ZX3 or a ZX5 will be right up your alley, and they arent that expensive. That or check out a Cougar. You also could always look into getting a 2000 Contour.

As for the Focus, I drove a ZX5 in Drivers ed, and wow, its amaizing how much they feel like the contour. and the interior color scheme's and doors look much like the contour. Their engine is a little bit quieter, and its a very nice drive. Im not kidding, go to a ford dealer and take one for a test drive, you will like it.

I'd second that. If the loaner Focus I'd been driving for the past few weeks had working A/C and new wipers, I'd have been happier, but it's a nimble and spunky little machine. I'd look at a ZX3, at least, or an ST or 2004 ZTS Sport if I were you, especially if you can find one with the 2.3L.
