I live in Chester(near richmond), VA and minutes ago I was stopped and given a ticket for having 35% tint on my front windows... This is ridiculous. I know that by law, I am not aloud to have it.. But if you've seen 35% tint, it is hardly dark at all.
I told the cop that there are cars around here with tint way more extreme than mine... He told me he would get them as well and I said I'm sure you will. Cops are ridiculous. Do they not have anything better to do? I'm only 18 and my funds are going to be shot now because this idiot decided he wanted to pick on someone.
Needless to say, I called his Liuetenant and filed a complain because he was very rude and didn't seem to care about anything that I had to say.
I will never understand laws like this. I know a lot of us here have chose 35% tint b/c most cops dont even bother with it.. Have you been stopped as well?

I have 50% up front and 20% in the back.. so my backs are illegal. I've never been stopped for it.

So let me get this straight. You have illegal tint. You mouthed off to a cop when he pulled you over for it. And then you have the balls to file a complaint against for doing his job? Yes, 35% is not that dark and there are a lot of people that go much darker than you did. But you knew what you were doing was illegal so don't get pissed off when you get busted for it.

Agreed. Reminds me of a Judge Judy episode where this stuck up asian chick filed a complaint and tried suing a cop that was "rude" to her. She had gotton pulled over for doing like 20 over, and her dad was a cop. She called her dad from her cell phone and tried to get the cop to talk to him (she told Judge Judy that the intention wasn't to have her dad try and talk him out of giving the girl a ticket.. hah!!). She said the cop was rude because when she walked over to the police cruiser and get him to talk to her dad, the cop put his hand up and told her she needed to wait in her car. Judge Judy saw through her bullsh** and made her give the cop $5000. It was pretty sweet.

Strongly not recommended. Stick with 35%. I have to stick my head out the window at night to see out the back.

I have 5% in the rear, 35% up front, it is impossible to see out the back at night, I have to roll down the window when backing out of a space.
I wouldnt get 20% up front if thats what your talking about, I know someone who had 20% up front and was driving at night and didnt see a car and got broadsided.
Plus cops are even more likely to bug you if you have it up front.
To the original poster, my question is where you doing something else like speeding by chance. The reason I ask my 35% is illegal but I have had many cops behind me and to the side who obviously have seen it and they havent even pulled me over for it.
I honesty though dont see why 35% is illegal anywhere, 20% and 5% on the fronts I understand totally, it very hard to see when dark and raining outside, but 35% really doesnt affect seeing at all in my opinion.

I didn't really think I'd get all the hostile responses. I just wanted to know if anyone else in VA has gotten stopped for 35% tint..
I think you'd be upset too if you got a ticket for something as pointless as window tint. Then again, maybe not...
We got some Narcs in here. Heh..
