I just wanted to add to Rara's comment here - The failure mode in one of these diffs would be in the gear teeth, not the housing. There is very little room to package here.

What they don't mention is that the nature of the unbalanced loading on a typical helical gear(Quaife or GNK or Toshigi-Fuji or Tru-Trac) diff puts such a severe load on the differential's housing that they need the steel housing for durability. A Torsen diff has the gears configured for much better load-balancing (which is patented), which makes a cast housing more then adaquate.

I'm not (really) bashing Quaife either, I'm just reinforcing what Rara said with what we've found to be true...
