Email I received from Terry this morning:
We have got to the bottom of the problem.The current 'correct' Ford diff
carrier bearings are 19mm wide,this transmission was built by Ford with
17.5mm wide bearings! F.A.G did agree the bearing did exist but is no
longer made so it sound like some MTX75 transmissions had a production
fix in the trans plant re save casings that have been 'over machined' &
too narrow for std 199 mm wide races!Even Ford tech line have no record
of these 17.5mm bearings.Thes carrier will be m/c to take the 'correct'
19mm bearings.Hope this input helps for future questions on the fitting
of LSD to MTX75.regards terry haines
Not that I understand the internals of a transaxle, but the jist is clear to me. Not ALL 2.5 MTX-75s will be like mine, I just got a SPECIAL one. The kind that needs a machine shop to fit a Quaife. However a 2.5 MTX-75 will need to be heavily un-shimmed to get it to fit right. So don't let your local Billy Bob's Trannies do the work for you unless they know what they are doing.
