Seawolf, I was wondering about something & thought I would post here for everybodys future info...

Would closing the gap on the copper plugs make them run a bit cooler?? Instead of .050, run them at .035 gap??

MAJOR congrats Hector!! You're a pioneer now and a ZETEC GOD!!

Changing the gap won't make them run any cooler, AFAIK.

I figured, but that was the farmers theory when I was growing up - back before platinum plugs everything was copper core and the latest technology in the 70s was Nickel Chromium cladding.

You want to gap it shorter because the extra cylinder pressure under boost and the richer fuel mix could blow out the spark and cause a misfire if the gap is too wide. Under boost and nitrous I ran a .30 gap and still had a bit of a misfire but I was running just richer than 11:1. I am currently running .40 under regular driving. Turbo Tom recommends .45 but his first Escort turbo kit couldn't run without a gap of .25 for some reason. He suspected a bad coil or wires. Basically try to gap it as wide as you can without blowing out the spark. For the base JR settings I'd say .40 should be good maybe even .45, because copper has better conductivity than platinum. If you have to gap it closer than .40 I'd look for new wires and maybe even a new coil.

I got my plugs gapped at .30 due to a mixture of the fuel blowing out the spark ( I know this because I started with a gap of .45 and the car just bogged along) and what I suspect to be a set of bad MSD wires. I got me some cheap ones for now (that I need to install) and see if that fixes the problem.....I may be investing in a MSD box in the near future too.

NO NO NO NO NO!

The J&S Safeguard is the prefered ignition box. It can do everything a MSD DIS2 can AND it can be spliced into the stock knock sensor and retard timing when it senses knock. It can also do a few more cool things. Look into it.

Hector, you have to break 200whp with that thing. Also at Spring Zing 06 its on like donkey kong with the dyno numbers.
