Hey its been awhile since i've been on...seems like alot of interest in this turbo sytem.
Chris I wonder if you recall we spoke about the turbo system for a 95 contour GL. I am in the process of building the turbo system using a Garrett T3.
This is a warning to members that the turbo system is not plug n' play (supercharger) which seems to be what most members think.
A turbo system requires consistent tuning unless drastic changes are made to the EMS (engine management system) See TEC2, SDS, DTA, Motec..etc, if large boost is wanted (> 10psi). These changes including varying fuel pressures and spark timing. Some turbo kits even include re-mapped chips as an alternative to going to an EMS. Will you be including this ?
From your post
http://www.contour.org/cgi-ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=002826 you are offering a stage 3 kit which with my build up is a stage 1 - 2. I would highly recommend offering the blow off valve or a diverter valve AND a fuel management unit as your stage 1 [low boost ... 6psi] and the intercooler option [air-to-air maybe .. as this is a cheaper unit and a lot easier install .. depending on location and size of]. As from experience [btw, I own a turbo charged CRX .. garage project ... and my bro is putting together his VW turbo 2.0 at the moment] these are a necessity or else detonation will occur and crazy EGTs will occur and lean conditions occur.
Can you please explain to me your stage 4 and stage 5 ? I don't understand what you are doing here ? Are you offering a variety of exhaust manifolds for different flow characteristics?
Anyways, my point to this post is .... EDUCATE!!! everyone please surf the web about turbos, find a hi-po shop in your neighbourhood and talk to those who have installed turbos on cars. Ask them what they think about putting together a kit. It is not a weekend bolt on project but a passion in physics and engineering. Well, good luck on the kit and see you on the street !
