The SV650S has been around longer than just this year. It was brought out in 2000 (the SV650 (non s) was brought out in 99 it was redesigned in 03 (more angles and FI added to the engine IIRC).

The MSF course around here you do not need a bike to take the begining course (it is for people just starting and some decide not to ride again after taking it) you only need to bike to take the advanced course.

As for only having $900 where are you going to get your safety gear ? are you rolling that into the purchase price of your new bike ? dont forget boots,gloves,pants,jacket and helmet. That can add up real quick.
