SV650!!!! That bike is way too much fun. Plus I wouldn't really recommend starting out on a sport bike. It's amazing how much power those things have, and how easy they can get away from you. The SV is much more manageable and not as peaky as the I-4's.

The SV650 is not a bad choice at all. Would be lower insurance rates (which should be a deciding factor), and there's not much plastic to scratch up when you drop it (you WILL drop it). Quote:
If you want a sportbike and you want a bit more comfort, the ZX-636, CBR F4i and the Daytona 600 are more suited to that.
I'm surprized you don't put the F4i in the same category as the R6 and Gixxer. Sure, it's not the 600RR, but it's still a rippin' bike. And believe me, the seat on the F4i had nothing to do with comfort on long rides.
I just bought this:
Take a MSF class before you buy any motorcycle.

I think you meant the FZ6, thats in the class with the SV650. Thats the bike I would get hands down out of the ones you said. They are $6500 new, and I found a dealer that would let me have one for $7000 out the door with a 4 year warranty and TTL.
Everywhere I read the FZ6 beats out the SV650 in performance and comfort.

Nice buy !
Just to clarify, there's absolutly nothing wrong with F4i's, or the F2, F3, F4's. But compared to a bike like the R6/R1, the CBR F4i just doesn't cut it (hence, the RR).
They are great bikes though, and its pretty tolerable of mistakes and are commonly known as great starter bikes.
Seriously, the R6 and the CBR are within a couple ticks of a second between each other in the quarter, and the only time you'll see an R6 shine is on the track.
Street wise, not much will be any different.

Exactly. The FZ6 is barely any better to start on than the R6. It's more or less the exact same engine in the two bikes, just tuned slightly different. The FZ6 is more like a racing bike in street trim. Still not a good bike to start on.
If you're hell bent on buying a bike, don't be stupid and buy something new. Go check out all the moto forums and read about everything and anything. I got real big into buying a bike at the beginning of this summer. I started reading everything and realized I don't want to spend the money to fix a bike or my own body WHEN I feel. Not if I feel, but when. You will fall. So, if you're going to get a bike...buy something used. Keep it for the rest of the year then next year go for something new. By then you'll know more of what you want.

Sounds like its going to be his first bike. It would be crazy to have a gixxer to learn on. Too many people buy bikes that they can't handle early on and end up paying the price. The SV-650 is really the only one listed that would be appropriate. Have fun, I miss my old bike daily...
yea the guy at the dealer told me not to get the GSX-R 600 or the 600RR.

Gotta have a bike, my dad's friend teaches it so does the guy who i will probably end up buying the bike they both said even though i take the course I should still got to a huge parking lot as close as possbile to where i live and driver around (like an empty one), so I can practice until i am pretty good. Which sounds fine to me lol. did that with forklifts at my current job lol.

I saw the FZ6 later on. I liked the looks of the R6 but performance wise its a bit much. I prefer yamaha and suzuki. Not a big fan of honda, even though they looks great.. sorry gotta thing against honda's even though their bikes looks good! I am looking at thr FZ6 tonight instead of the R6. The SV650S i was looking at was 6500 out the door and it was a 2004, which is the first year they were made. 100% new. 1 mile on it.
See i would like to get something used, but hey no much i can get for a $900. LOL with my new job thats all i got.. it would take me forever to buy a used bike and the interests since i have no credit would suck just as bad. So i figure a new bike. I mean i have drove them a few times before a R1 (friend of mine before he got paralized by some old lady on I-5. and a Suzuki Ninja from a guy at my last job. Other then that I have drove a lotta dirt bikes back 3-4 years ago in montana.

The SV650S has been around longer than just this year. It was brought out in 2000 (the SV650 (non s) was brought out in 99 it was redesigned in 03 (more angles and FI added to the engine IIRC).
The MSF course around here you do not need a bike to take the begining course (it is for people just starting and some decide not to ride again after taking it) you only need to bike to take the advanced course.
As for only having $900 where are you going to get your safety gear ? are you rolling that into the purchase price of your new bike ? dont forget boots, gloves, pants, jacket and helmet. That can add up real quick.

This is more important than you think. Gear adds up so fast, it's mind-numbing. Get ready to spend $1000 or more after you've got everything you need to ride safe. Don't be a squid and ride without gear! You seem smarter than that.
The beginer MSF class should come with a loaner bike (about 250cc).
With your money and experience, buy a $900 bike this summer, ride it for a year, and then buy a better bike next season. Don't get any of the above mentioned bikes. It's not a "cheap hobby". It's a deep, high-risk, dangerous investment.

And don't forget about insurance. It'll have to be full coverage if you are gonna finance it as well. Check insurance rates before you choose your new bike.
Best of luck in finding a bike, I'll put my vote in for the SV650 out of all of those choices!

As others have pointed out, R6 as a first bike is a NO NO. Even the FZR6 is a bit of a reach as the performance is only a VERY small step below the R.
Now, I LOVE my SV650; granted it's a 2000. The newer models are still as forgiving as the older ones. The V-twin will have all the get-up and go power you need along with a top-end that will keep you happy. Remember, it's not about speed; it's ALL about skill. I can keep up with novice liter bikes in the twisties. They can leave me on the straights, but I catch up quick.
I know several riders on Georgia Sportbikes that have the ZZR1000. A couple took the ZZR6 out for a spin and weren't impressed. NOTE that this was from veteran riders.
The decision is your own. Just take mine and everyone elses advice about getting GOOD gear and taking the MSF.
...and just to clarify... the first MSF course provides the bikes. The ERC ( experienced rider course ) is on your own bike.
