283 should drop you off on rt30 in York. From York to Lancaster (Amish Shops Everywhere) it is a small highway. From Lancaster to Coatesville it is backroad which isn't too bad. 30 then splits... local will take you right through coatesville or you can take bypass 30 to rt82 exit. Don't backtrack from 100.

Overall I don't think its much more then an hour from 283 to coatesville.

"Spank you very much"
Anytime!

Got the construction information for you. I don't know if you'd be able to follow it if I typed it out for you, can I fax or mail it to you? Basically, it brakes down the specific areas where there is construction. Hard to follow if you don't see it in person.

AAA also recommended the route that you have chosen.

Let me know and I will fax or mail it to you today/tomorrow morning.

LUCA Spank you very much If they say its all good with that route I'm taking then I'll just go with it. I'm going to stop at some truck stops/waysides and I'll grab map just in case. I happy to here some of it is back roads....How are the deer around there? No need to send anything LUCA I'll take your/AAA's word on it I really do appreciate everyones input to the subject. I still need to find a rental shop that has a car hauler available. I guess this sisn't the best time of year to be renting car haulers
Well Thanks again and a very big Spank you very much to LUCA

No problem, glad to help out.

According to the TripTik the construction is sporadic. Construction on I-80 in a few areas while in Michigan, a few areas of I-76 in PA and again on 283 in or around Lancaster, after that it seems to be fine.

A car hauler?? You bringing a car or taking one home with you?

From my experience most roads are pretty well posted if there is a deer problem. Lets hope that you don't encounter any!

Have a safe trip!

I drive 283 and 30 every day from Harrisburg to 202 ( you won't be going as far as 202). There is some construction on 283 around Elizabethtown but I think it is almost done. At 5:30 am (east bound)and 5:00 pm (west bound) I have only had lanes closed once in four months.

Get off I 76 at Harrisburg EAST exit (not sure of the number)and get on 283. You will get on 30 in Lancaster. 283 ends and blends into 30 so you don't really have to look for 30. It should be about 1 hour and 15 mins from Harrisburg to Coatsville.

Good luck.

yeah thats the way I took.

(RANT ON)
OK First off the construction was friggin horrible saturday morning. I drove into PA around 2am. I was following some semis we where crusing along at about 80-85 through the mountians. Then we hit bumper to bumper stand still traffic. The fuggin cops where making everyone go through at 25mph!!!!! once in awhile I could see a few miles up that the squad cars where leading the way with lights blazing. No accidents no work going on at that location??? WTF?!?!?!?!?! And when we did hit the areas of construction no one slowed down. Well then I get to my xeit for 283 and think OK back roads Amish country It was a friggin city people. Thats not backroads I saw the Amish store. I'm thinking to myself hahaha Amish country my nutz then I see the horse drawn buggy tooling down the road insert sleep deprived laughter. Well after 50plus miles of driving through bumper to bumper 40mph crap, I finally get to Coatsville. Made about 6-7 wrong turns and found some really nice slum/ghetto dumps. Nothing like nearly getting side swiped by a slammed Mercedes with 20's and limo tint( he wasn't a drug dealer ) I was less then thrilled at that point. But I found the place and drove by it so I made another u turn with the trailer on Misty patch road. I swear those roads where made for Minis. The trailer took up almost both lanes half the time. I really liked the paved over tree roots and trees right next to the road Looks like a fun road to crash on in the winter. So after 24++ hours with no sleep and little to eat I left and was back on the road at 10am. I get back onto 283/30 after another wrong turn and hit bumper to bumper traffic through town my blood was voiling t this point. I started thinking about getting a hotel at this point, but then after getting back on the tollway and gettinf raped out of another $19 toll fee for the second time I was rather pissed and justed wanted out of PA. I hit that nice typhon that rolled through PA also in the Mountains. the fuggin east bound lane ws a river so every semi that went up it would send a 30ft high by about 60 ft long wave of water at me. I couldn't see [censored] and I just wanted to floor it so I could get out faster. Well after driving at 30 for what seemed like an hour it finally let up enough that I could put the hammer down and make up for lost time. So what happens??? the lack of sleep over the past 30+ hours kicks my ass and I try to sleep in my truck with the windows rolled up so I can't hear the other semis...in the 90+ degree heat I barely napped for 30 mins when I gave up. That was enough though after that I was on a mission to get home. I made it out of PA and through Ohio wher I got raped for $13.70 for the second time and a few $1.50 tolls on top of that I stopped at ate in Indiana and ended up stoppping to sleep soon after at about 9:30 pm. So i went about 41+ hours with no sleep.... I was wondering why my quick little nap last night turned into 8+hours Well I woke up at 6am and hit the road still tired, stinky from the past days heat, and rather focused on getting home. 3 hours later I got home and then of all the [censored] to happen while unloading the car the brakes didn't work and it proceeded to roll over a pile of rocks and rip the drivers side skirt off I wanted to kill my dad....The brake pedal went to the floor he started yelling no brakes as i stood in horror and watched the skirt rip off Well I guess there goes thye idea of no body work on the car And of course the brakes where fine after a few pumps...damn ford. Well all in all I don't think you'll be seeing me in PA anytime soon...or maybe ever again for that matter. The roads are terrible out there I couldn't believe it (END RANT)

I heard that I-76 was repaved 3 years ago and they are already ripping it back up?Man thats crazy. Well thanks for all the help..I think next time I might just avoid the toll ways at all costs if possible. There has to be a way around all the tollways

Sounds like PennDOT. A good friend of mine, one of his buddy's works for the PA Governor's office and always tells PennDOT stories; paving over deers and other roadkill. Tree stumps don't surprise me at all.

yeah I was amazed by that road. It would be ablast to hammer the tour down but one little mistake and you would be dead. Oh and how many dakmn layers of asphalt do they lay down on the Interstate? When I was stuck crawling Friday morning in traffic i swore I seen about 5-6 layers of asphalt on top of concrete that had been partially ripped up. there were sections that where ripped up down about 2 feet And that was then finally down to rock/road bed. yeah those roads rank right up there in the bad zone

Sorry you don't like our roads. I guess we are just used to them. When we leave them we think we are in heaven!

Good luck with the Tour.
