I admit that the pipe does get hot but when we tested a ZX2 (soory not quite Contour related) with an air filter relocation kit, the pipe remained hot, close to the engine but the performance did not suffer. This was in 90 degree weather, last week. I would surmise that when at speed, the air velocity is high enough that the temperature rise of the air is very little, though the pipe is hot. Looks like the air passes fast enough into the engine without picking up much heat from the aluminum. Also we had the autotap plugged in and we found that the intake air temperature was only about 20 degrees higher than ambient.

I guess what I am trying to get at is that as long as the incoming air is relatively cooler, the hot intake pipe will have little affect on the temperature rise.

You could wrap the pipe with the black plumbing foam that goes around the water pipes. It would then act like a thermis and keep cold air inside colder longer. cool

Thanx for all the comments on the intake. I have to say it's my first performance mod and it's probably the best thing on my car yet.

I have considered putting a heat shield but then on the other hand I don't seem to notice a difference in performance when driving. When I get out of the car after 30 to 60 minutes of driving, I touch the pipe and sure enough it's burning hot but again, performance is still there even after 60 min of driving.

I said I'd put a recording of the new sound coming from the engine. Here it is:
Intake Sound

BTW, I couldn't rev the engine higher than 3500rpm because IT'S AN ATX. GRRRRRR!!!!

Also, for the guy from Ottawa. If you decide to buy it, it would be coming from Toronto.

Whoo Hooo!!!
I just installed my CTA 3" polished aluminum intake! It took a bit of work but I did it. I even got my KKM filter to fit. Looks great and sounds even better. I will try to post some pics later this week.

Excellent, Peter. Wanna trade the filter back?
