So why should the citizens be denied the right to elect a new one(novel system this democracy, electing an official ) and that's exactly the situation the party has fabricated.

Because that's not what their Constitution decrees. When virtually any elected official resigns there's not another election.

Ahh, but there would be an election had they not decided to make it "official" three months from now. That's BS and indefensible.

How many people just up and resign one day? Giving notice is standard fare on any job. I'm required to give 3 months notice, I don't see why the governor of an entire State wouldn't do the same. It takes 3-6 months for a new official to get settled into a job (1 year for the President), it only makes sense to have a period of time before the new guy is "officially" the Governor.
Using the whole "they're doing this on purpose" excuse it would have made much more sense to just have waited 1 month until after Sept 15th or just wait to announce it until then.

That's a pretty shaky premise. I'm pretty sure it's someone's name on that ballot, and not the platform. Who's to say the guy who will inherit the governorship will completely and accurately uphold the exiting governor's platform? If the platform they voted on is resigning, then they have the right to vote for another one.
Originally posted by sigma: There's absolutely no logical sense in holding another election because the man who is resigning from office held some very questionable moral standards. He's gone. The problem is fixed. Pointing a finger at the next guy in office doesn't solve anything.
I'm not really complaining about the guy resigning, I don't care, I'm complaining about when he will be officially done as governor. He has carefully crafted his exit plan so that the Democrats will remain in control of that office, when he clearly has the chance give the people the power to choose.

Again, if this was so "carefully crafted" why not just wait until after September 15th to announce his resignation? Or why wait until November 15th to resign, when he could have accomplished the same thing by resigning October 15th?
Sounds like the GOP has been taking lessons from the liberals and is digging around for a conspiracy theory.

CNN) McGreevey's surprise resignation came as Golan Cipel, a former security aide to the governor, had readied a sexual harassment lawsuit against the governor, two Democratic sources told CNN. Cipel resigned his post in 2002.
"Given the circumstances surrounding the affair and its likely impact upon my family and my ability to govern, I have decided the right course of action is to resign," McGreevey said.
McGreevey said his affair and sexuality -- "if kept secret" -- would leave the governor's office "vulnerable to rumors, false allegations and threats of disclosure."
So NOW do we all understand why Bill's "secret" affair with Monica was a BIG DEAL??? MUCH more than just lying under oath which many so easily dismiss..
This guy is admitting that attempting to keep secret the affair would make the governor's office vulnerable to blackmail. He had appointed a state "terrorist czar" from Israel who was unable to meet security clearence requirements for the job who is now suing him for sexual harrasment. Had Monica been working for terrorists...........???
Bill left this county wide open here to satisfy himself.. No need to debate this...it is a fact.
