lets look at the street flight kit. for 5 grand you get injectors, manifolds and piping, turbo, wastegate, air to water intercooler, plumbing, and a cheap bov. lets say the t28 is 600, wastegate 200, injectors 180ish, bov 50 bux (eclipse), and all the plumbing. id say right around 1300 bux for that stuff. you can get it cheaper i know im just focusing on the street flight kit. heres why i made this post. how much would you guess the manifolds and downpipe is really worth paying for. even if all the other pieces were 2500 bux is the manifold and downpipe worth the other 2500 bux? thats super crazy. how much do you think it would cast to get custom ones made. ? just a thing to think about.

Im sorta new to the contour side of turbo'ing, but imo it is a bit on the expensive side. But until they sell more i guess they can have the price that high. All you really need is a good mani setup, everything else you can pick up from jyards or order pretty cheap. My 2cents, you could build it custom for less BUT it might not produce the same hp or reliablity of street flights kit.

add in the price of intercooler, intercooler pump, intercooler resevoir, tuned chip, K&N filter, oil catch can, all fittings, clamps, and hoses and your looking at a good $1500+. That brings the grand total to about $3000+. Certainly worth the price of the custom fabricated headers, downpipe, intake pipe, etc. Im sure you could get some headers fabricated for cheaper, but this is quality steel too.

true that i guess they did do alot of research. but how hard would it be to make decent manifolds and up pipe for our car. factoring in space and stuff.

I don't doubt that you could have a turbo kit for half the price.

What everyone here seems to get it is that this kit is already proven to work and you don't need to really "tune" it. Its more like a bolt on kit, where as a custom kit would take hours of tuning and sh!t that street flight has already done for you.

But whatever, I consider all turbo kits horribly overpriced IMO anyway but people like to stick with whats been proven to work.

Turbo and W-A intercooler. $1500-2000

Okay that's 2 parts...

Custom high grade SS headers. I'm sure they are well over $1000.

Substitute MSDS for $600.

Modified stock ones for $300. (unless you have a welder and some skill which you damn well better have if thinking about a project like this!)

High grade SS piping. $500+

Aluminized for $250-300

All the other parts would basically be the same.

So I could see a kit using mild steel headers and aluminized piping for $4000. Including a large roll of thermal wrap of course.

Now maybe 3000-3500 if you built it yourself and used at least moderate quality parts.

Heck maybe even as low as $2500 but that's scraping the bottom.

The intercooler is by far the largest expenditure. The core is expensive but building the IC is not cheap either.
I can weld fairly decent but I don't think I'd trust myself torching a $700 core.

When I say "torch" I mean melt it from too much heat.

Welding aluminum is an art. Without practice you'd end up with a "torched" $700 chunk of aluminum. No thanks!

I have a MIG welder btw.
I haven't used oxyacetylene in years. It does make cool bombs though.
