First off I need to know the "average" life of our oil pumps. I did a search for anything oil pump related and didnt come up w/ very much useful information...

I was driving home today and at no more than 35 mph and was hearing a slight noise kind of like a belt slipping, but couldnt tell if it was my car or something else, so i pulled off the road and it stalled. Everytime you go to start it, it makes a whining sound like i stated earlier. Had a friend come to see/hear it, he is a mechanic at Honda, and he thinks it sounds like one of the cams in bank 1 head. The oil was changed not even 20 miles ago. As I posted about 2wks or less ago about oil pressure and what it should be, it has been at a constant 25 lbs never dropping unless at idle and of course never raising..it did seem to low to me, however, since the removal of the "top half" of the motor ie...low/upper intake manifolds for turbo kit, it has been this way, so I was thinking more along the lines of the sending unit maybe being bad. Just wondering if it doesnt sound as though like my oil pump has basically "stopped working". Obviously not completely but not making enough pressure to lube the upper part of the motor. Its oil pressure was like this even before i was able to go into boost. Any info would be highly appreciated as I need to get this car on the dyno to tune it. Also if it is an oil pump, how do i replace it and how much do they typically cost. Also do you know how much cams are and can I buy one or do i need/should I buy all 4. Thanks once again, and please

-Ken

ok the oil pump is gonna be kinda hard to replace with the engine in the car. to remove the oil pump you need to remove the timing chaings which requires alot to be removed so it will be a little time consuming

the pump from ford is listed at 132.60 the part number is XW4Z6600DA

and yes you can get the camshafts seperate from each other, but if you think you have done damage to one, you should check them all

Sorry to hear that. Let us know how it goes - I haven't heard of too many people replacing their OP.

That's good news.

Anybody have any idea what would cause oil to not get to the cams?

Derek..I am really starting to lean more towards the oil feed line to the turbo and not the oil pump...I guess there is a feed point in the block and I wasnt aware of that..I will have to take the feed line out and hook the sending unit to that spot and see if i get my pressure back...most likely i will and I will just have ruined what is most likely to be my head...just got a quote from ford, and my cost is 1k FOR ONE!

I highly doubt the oil pump failed.

I doubt the cams are bad. They are forged billet steel riding in aluminum.

You can get an whole engine for $1000

An oil feed line off of the back of the head is the last in line.
It would not reduce oil flow to anything "before" it.
Yes pressure maybe. A minor restrictor would cure that if it was an issue.

However if it were an issue I would think the test mule would have had something occur by now with over 30k miles and 1200 dyno runs (which equals about 10k miles of racing)
Unless of course their's is connected to a different spot? (contact Chris)
