a NICE car. good choice. the 190E is a nice, light little car. the lightest Merc since the 1920's IIRC.

Awesome. After looking around a bit though it seems you need to be real careful with the E30 M3's. Most owners seem to say you need to really watch everything for regular maintnance. An average in a year on repairs was $3k - $5k. That seems rediculous for a late 80's car, M3 or not.

I got a jewel of a BMW to go with my Contour. The Bimmer has been relatively reliable. The only un-expected expense has been a rusty exhaust system, fuel pump, & a water pump. Everything else has been maintenance, or the little quirks that come with the car - i.e. window switches, idle control.
I need some control arms, but that was my fault.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

That's also what I'm reading. Owners are saying it's the big things like the engine and transmission going, but it's a lot of little things that just start to add up.

not really any different from any other car depending on how hard you beat on it and how meticulously you maintain it.
just look at an SVT Contour for a similar comparison. And there are a number of places that provide discount european parts for items shared across a range of cars, like water pumps.
http://www.eeuroparts.com is one.

Yeah I know you can find parts cheaper than what is usually the easiest way to get them. Lupe said he might be able to help out with some things of that nature as well.. I've had a lot of problems with my CSVT, and I feel 75% of them are my fault. (I couldn't help hitting the deer and the waterpump doesn't count against me either). I think I have learned enough from owning the CSVT to know better when it comes to owning other cars in the future.
