what is your point with the 4-lug argument on this?????? lug size/pattern is simply a matter of load on the wheel hubs that needs to be transferred out to the wheel. When Contour SVT's start shearing lugs on a regular basis, then talk to me. Unfortunately for your argument, that just doesn't happen, ever. Please explain your reasoning behind this ill will toward a 4-lug configuration, especially for auto-x.
Personally, if a 4-lug is beefy enough to handle the loads put into it, why would I want to go to a heavier 5-lug setup?
The contour is roughly a 3000 lb car at normal weight, and the Mustang is roughly 3500lb big difference between those when you are converting them into max cornering loads.
