First post here on these forums.
I would like to start by thanking everyone who contributes here. Had I not found it I am sure I would have payed dearly in the coming months or years.
I own a 1995 Ford Contour GL, V6 and ATX since late 1999. Having stumbled across this site a couple of weeks ago I've managed to troll around the forums reading a number of posts that made me appreciate my vehicle even more.
But the main reason I'm posting here now is because of an article I read in the FAQ section.
Recall 99M03: AKA the problematic Underhood Wiring Harness.
As I bought this vehicle second hand from a used Ford dealership, I never recieved this recall letter. Only now when my vehicle is 9 years old and at approximately 95.5k miles did I bother to carefully inspect my underhood wiring.
They were in terrible shape, exposed corroded wires in some places - I cannot believe the vehicle was running as well as it has been with the electronics in such poor condition.
I drove down to my Ford Dealership earlier today and described my problem. The guy didn't even bother to check under the hood as he knew what Texas weather could do to insulation.
Good news is that I caught this problem before the 10 year 100,000 mile window expired. Bad news is the parts won't be in for a couple of days so I'll be stranded until then. But going a couple of days without my car to get 1000-1500$ (wiring harness is 700$ alone) worth of work done for free is well worth it.
Thank you CEG for keeping this site up long enough for me to find it in time.

I'll end this by adding that *anyone* with a 95-97 Contique that hasn't had this recall taken care of. Check you mileage and warranty start date and have it done if you can. It is something that should be done sooner or later IMHO.
