I'm running it on an Athlon 2500+, 512 3200, 9800 (non-pro), on a A7N8X2. On High Quality, All Effects, I get 29.2 on the Time Demo.
So, judging by my own experience, a 2800+ Barton and a 9800 will be more than sufficient.

Good one.

GPU test results
I have been a reader of AnandTech for quite a while now, and they seem to have pretty well designed tests to show performance on different computer configuration.
Here is a detailed Doom 3 performance article...shows basically everything you could want to know about how different hardware performs on the game.

Unfortunately, your speculative assessment of my mood is incorrect. By the way, learn how to use adverbs.
Originally posted by ScarContour: My point by saying that I am "averaging" around 60FPS was made by playing the game with com_drawfps set to 1 so that I can see my FPS while I play.
I don't even have to explain why this is a very poor way to judge performance, and is not creditable.

Sure running the timedemo is all well and good,
Yes, and it's more accurate.

but this way I get to play as I judge performance as well and what I see is that it is usually around 60, can spike as high as 85 and dip into the low 50s, so I "average" around 60FPS.
Unless you unlocked your MAX FPS through the console, you never reached 85FPS. Still a poor assessment of "average" performance.

Of all the posts, I think mine have been the most well behaved and most informative.
Proof again forums are full of morons.

Exactly.
But you also have to understand DooM3 is setting a standard in the gaming industry. Not only are most engines after this going to be as demanding, but a lot of the more successful game engines are licensed from id. The DooM3 engine is going to be used in a lot of games, for a long time.

My advice is good.

Yes, I did give some good advice. You were too busy yelling obscenities at the monitor during the review of my posts to realize it.
Try to be more objective. It'll benefit you throughout your life.
