And if you had a decent motherboard, which I'm sure you don't, you'd be able to overclock your 1700+ close to 2400+ speeds. Aside from that, if you're hoping to play DooM3 at anywhere near an acceptable frame rate you better return that POS 2400+, and save for a couple more months. I don't know if you've been paying attention or not, but the technology DooM3 is running CG-style state of the art graphics. There aren't any video cards on the market for $150 worth purchasing. ESPECIALLY if you want to run DooM3.

I have a P4 3.5GHz with 1GB of PC4000 RAM and an ATI 9800XT with the 875P chipset, and I still don't manage great framerates in DooM3.

Since you're obviously too "busy" to do any research on your own, lemme give you MAP OUT a system for you that would run DooM3 nicely.

P4 3GHz+ CPU, Motherboard with 875p chipset, 1-1.5GB or RAM, and an NVidia 6800GT/ATI Radeon X800PRO.

And a note to the technological advisor on the board who said "It's not worth buying a 9800 because you can just buy a 9800 PRO for a little more and the performance increase is worth the extra money."

The only difference between a 9800 and a 9800PRO are the core/memory speeds, which, GUESS WHAT? You can simply change with a BIOS flash.

There are some differences between certain 9800's. Some are 128MB, some are 256MB. You have to pay attention.

Good luck.

haha, your friend is so geeky, yet not as geeky as I used to be, in fact, the computer i'm upgrading is near 2 years old and watercooled, back when watercooling was 1337 at the lan parties, back before you could buy a pre-modded case, back when a neon light was like $60.

That blue around the front intake fans are just the tops of plastic bowls
You can even see the Compaq I modded for a friend to the right.
