I'm just currious what you concider "great framerates" and at what settings because my CPU is much slower and I have half your ram but the same vid card at at 1024x768 high quality I am averaging 60-65 FPS. Too many people are used to getting 100+ fps in quakeIII and are too obcessed with synthetic benches that dont reflect true gameplay these days. If you want to play at 1600x1200 Ultra Quality then get a GeForce 6800 GT or Ultra of an X800XT-PE. Otherwise take your 60+ FPS "which I'm sure you have" as you put it and have fun playing the game.
