Alright, I've posted this question before but still haven't gotten an aswer and I can't seem to find where the thread went. If I use MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC ATF to change the fluid on my '98 SVT's tranny, do I have to add the "friction modifier"?....and please don't direct me to the FAQ on this topic...I've read it a thousand times and it's not very clear on this. And if I do need to add the friction modifier thingy, where do i purchase it? Thanks for the space...

As for question 1, the answer is yes. As for question 2, you get if from the dealer.

Click on your user ID to the left, then 'show all user's posts' to find your old threads. Big Jim's answer seems fairly comprehensive IMO: Your prior thread and, like the post above, provides a direct answer to your specific question (which the FAQ , I agree, does not).

I switched to Mobil 1 ATF at around 34K. I didn't add friction modifier because I couldn't find it. I did find it a year later and had the fluid drained and refilled -- this time with the friction modifier added. This was at 58K.
I found I liked the feel of the shifting better without the modifier, so I changed back to straight Mobil 1 ATF at 67K. I've been driving it like that (no more fluid changes) and now have over 150K. No ill effects due to not using the modifier as far as I can tell.
