Valvoline used the correct fluid; I went through hell with that one. The first shop I went to was closer to my house, I drive over the pit, and they get ready to open the plug. Then find out they donâ??t have the right synthetic fluid, they went through the books. Checked the numbers did all of that stuff, and they would not use any substitute for this transmission. So they told me the other Valvoline has 3 quarts of the special Synthetic fluid around (not a popular fluid, they donâ??t keep it in stock very often). So they referred me there. The first shop said "It will actually be about 50$ instead of 31 like I originally told you, this fluid being more expensive." so I drive over to the other one (on the other side of town mind you). Wait about 30 minutes, get over the pit, wait 30 more minutes, they find the fluid change all of it. Tell me I am all set, run through the gears (goes in and out of gears 2x better now). Start up, drive away. They want me to come back tomorrow to check everything to make sure itâ??s all tight and working properly also. And since they put me through that hell (making a 10 minute job into an hour and 45 minute one). They kept the price at 31$ and didnâ??t charge me for the synthetic fluid. The receipt says for the Item name "StaxlMERCON" Parts: 17.99 Labor: 12.00 Tax: 1.08. I tested it all out, under regular daily driving and thee Fun type of driving Accelerates like a dream, runs great. I would also like to say that I am getting seriously pissed when people give me stupid things to try and scare me. You DONT need to tell people the worst thing that can happen. I work on computers for people very often, I try to bend the truth so they donâ??t have to worry about problems. Start with little things and if it doesnâ??t fix the problem work you way up. I didnâ??t have a very good day, and I donâ??t want to hear about [censored] that COULD, but most likely wont, go wrong.

If they put in straight synthetic Mercon you are going to want to add some Friction Modifier.

Listen man, you will hear a bunch of CRAP from many mechanics and people throughout your life. Don't believe everything you hear. Think for ONE minute about how tight tolerances, etc. are in today's cars. True, if you never change the fluid (mainly in reference to atxs, but I reckon the same but to a lesser extent can happen to a mtx), you can get some debris, but you usually also have to abuse the tranny. And the only time this is gonna be a concern is if you POWER FLUSH an AUTOMATIC tranny. It's not a concern for the mtx guys at all. Listen to the people that actually work on and own contours and have been working on cars for years. They know what they're talking about.

Yes, and you make a fool of yourself. Look at your post above, went to one place, waited, waited some more, went to another place, so on and so forth.

that wasnt my fault, the bastard over the phone said they had the fluid there. AND Valoline was the only place here that had the right fluid to do the change. unless I wanted to go the ford dealer and pay a rediculious ammount for it.

Under the loads that a transmission sees there is no way that old transmission fluid is going to be sticky enough to hold little pieces of metal in place as if there were no worn spots. If the tranny were worn it would show signs of that especially with old fluid.
I worked at a tranny shop and never once opened a tranny and found it held together by old tranny fluid and metal flakes. Yes, sometimes there were buildups of junk but never in the high wear areas.
Everything should be fine. Just change the fluid at the recommended times.
