105K MTX, I have no idea when the last transaxel fluid change was... I can have Valvoline do it for $37. Should I have them do it? Or is there a way to tell if I need to change it?

You can do it yourself for around $5. Just drain out the old and pour in the new. Add fluid until it's full, I think it holds around 2-3 quarts. It's easier than changing your oil.

Well nuts to that. Valvoline had a sale to do it for 31$ today (that includes tax). They put in the special new fluid and everything. Car shifts, accelerates, and holds speed like a dream now.

Hopefully it was done before otherwise trouble may be coming very soon.

When the fluid gets older it collect the tiny particles from the tranny that come apart after normal wear and tear. If the fluid is not changed these particles are in there with the fluid and sort of keep the thing together. They will where the wear spots are and where tiny particles are missing, because it is old basically is why they can stick to places where particles are missing.
Anyways you just removed ALL those partciles and old fluid and now have no fluid. Now nothing is in the place where the littel pieces are missing, the fluid is new and therefore wont stick, in a sense.
Something I learned from school.

Good luck and I hope sometime before today it was changed.

Holy [censored] that is the worst info not to mention illegible. You'll be fine Alias. What kind of fluid did they use? Hopefully it is meant to be used in the MTX 75.

Nope, learned it at technical training school. Came from a guy who is a ASE certified master tech.
He knows what he is talking about, knows much more about cars than you ever will.

Man that is some ancient thinking there...

...also not even related to a manual transmissions. It was old automatic transmission thinking to boot at not entirely accurate even then. (the explanation posted here isn't even close!)
