Sorry TourDeForce, I wasn't very clear on that. I believe all stock Contour/Mystique 2.5L Y-Pipes are the same part. I'm sure others here know for certain if that's so or not. If not your Ford parts guy can tell you quickly enough.

What I was wondering about is the SHO and MSDS Y-Pipes vs the Ford part.

I was thinking that I'd heard that they had a larger diameter at the outlet, but now that I think about it, that may not be the case as they both plug right into the stock system.

Regards, Alan

1. That's not true though.

There are both 2 bolt and 3 bolt flange OEM Y-pipes.

Also there are 2 different flange sizes for the 2 bolt flanges.

All SVT's have a 2.5" flange and all 3-bolts do as well.
However all stock Y-pipes crush the pipes into the flange so they must be "modified" to be worth a damn.

2. SHO/BAT design eliminates the U-bend used to help tune the pulses at low and mid rpm ranges.
The MSDS retains the U-bend but it's more of a V-bend since it's not well built at that point.

No aftermarket Y-pipe has a heat shield like the stock unit. ALWAYS wrap an aftermarket pipe where it goes around the oil pan!

All have a 2.5" flange.

Sorry for the mistake . I know better.
Guess the old brain wasn't working well on 7 hours sleep total over the previous two nights. Got 6 hours last night so I'm slowly getting back to normal. I've been running on an average of 5 hrs sleep a night for the last two weeks and guess I didn't have the reserve for two 3.5 hr nights back-to-back.

Aside from the external differences Demon, I was thinking that the internals were all the same.
