I searched I need to replace the trailing arms on my 98 CSVT, and I was wondering if they are the same as the non-SVT contour. Thanks in advance, Matt

The rears? Why are the bushings bad? if it's the control arms yes they are the same from the tour,CSVT and cougar. if you need fronts there are 2 different styles.

Thanks for the quick response. I just need the rears because Cletus the Towtruck Driver slipped the j-hooks over them to drag my car onto the flatbed, bending both of them into a v-shape. Of course, they aren't responsible for any damage unless the car actually falls off the truck....

thats ridiculous. So you are saying if they straped it to the bumper and ripped it off, you would be responsable for fixing it? I would have freaked out and threatened to sue, for being the dumnist F'ing truck driver on the planet. Sorry for the rant, Its just amazing how stupid some people are. I mean his whole job is to safely strap a car to a flatbed and not damage anything, How hard could it be!??!?!?!!! Its not rocket science!!!

That is crazy I just put my car in a ditch well about a month back (for unexplainable reasons) and when I got it to my mechanic he said one of the trailing arms was bent. only one. well the guy who pulled it out was a complete idiot he just about ripped the front bumper off while i was standing there sayin"What the (few choice works) do you think you are doing you're going to rip the bumper off!" his response..."I know" I could have killed him anyway back to the important stuff my mechanic told me that he thought the towtruck driver had done it so ive got a bent trailing arm.
Are there any upgraded rear trailing arms on the market? I drive my car pretty hard (i swear it cant get enough of it) and id like to put something on that wont bend on me if the car slides off the road again. (bit of a cross country racer important to have strong suspension)

I do believe that the arms you're referring to are not the trailing arms. Do they extend back and forth on the long axis of the car or from side to side (laterally)? The arms which are most commonly bent by the non-knowledgeable are the toe control arms. These are flimsy steel stampings and are the most easily accessible as they are the furthest towards the rear of the car and therefore easy to jack on, pull on, etc. I have seen many, many bent ones in my time - even Ford mechanics do it!
As for stronger ones check out my post "tubular toe control arms". Ford calls 'em rearward rear control arms and the main rear lateral control arms (stamped C section) forward rear control arms. The main arms can be strengthened by welding "boxing" plates on the open portion (bottom) which really helps ride AND handling. However, the rr subframe must be dropped to remove and reinstall them. The toe control arms, on the contrary, are easily removed and reinstalled. A rr alignement is recommended after.

Yes, there are trailing arms on the rear suspension. Jack the car up so you can see the rear suspension. There are a total of 6 arms, 3 per side on the rear. 1 arm per side extends fore aft/longitudinally, and the other 2 extend laterally, 1 of which is the toe control arm (closest to the rear of the car) and the other is the main control arm.
Does that help?
BTW-The trailing arms do have a "kink" in them for clearance. Find someone with the same car and compare. Normally, the toe control arms are the ones which get bent....

ok so i understand the two major suspension arms. are the "trailing arms" not really trailing but more leading? there is a bar on each side of the suspension leading from about 1ft forward of the suspension down to the control arms and i dont think it is the swaybar maybe it is im not sure ill see if i can find a pic on the net and get back to you but if you can make sense of my jabber please explain. cheers
