my passenger seat squeaks, all the time when im on the freeway. and no its not the leather rubbing on the center console. I thinks its comming from the pivot point in the seat because if i rest my hand around the top of it, the sound goes away but as soon as i take my arm off it starts up again. Sometimes if i recline the seat all the way it goes aways but eventualy it comes back. In regrads to the pic. that was posted. Is there something clearly broken in the pic? I cant tell. But im def. tempted to take out the seat and take a look.

Same problem with our seats in england the dreaded squeek is caused by the rail on the underside breaking so i have devised a fix that costs nothing and takes no time or effort at all to do i turn up the radio so i cant hear it

I have a solution for the person who said their rear seats squeak. I had the same problem. There are actually two white plastic clips that the rear seat coushin clips into and the tabs that hold that clip down have a tendency to break off.....then causing the squeaking noise. The clip itself is a royal rip off......I paid something like $4.70 for mine but it fixed the problem.

Compare the two. You see how the flat tin bar that bends up and connects to the rail... Now in the first pic, it broke off on the other side, and in this picture, you can see it's cracked. Hence the squeak AND excessive left/right movement

I have the same problem. I took the seat apart to find the problem, and the sheetmetal that the seat back is made of was cracking. The seat back would have broken in half if I were rear-ended. I bought some metal from lowes, cut it to size and bolted a peice on the inside and outside. Long storie short: The seat still squeaks but atleast it won't break.

Ahh, i see what your talking about. thanks. I used to commute with this friend of mine to work every day and he weighed at least 350pounds. I wounder if that could cause enough stress to crack it.

And as 864x4 said, the actual backing or something of the chair can break and squeak. Dumb datsun-esque metal.

As others have suggested, it might well be a broken weld or section of metal seat support under the seat. Several have mentioned that theirs have broken and I've had both my Mystique and SVT end up with the same problem, so it appears that there is definitely a design/manufacturing/materials flaw. The front seats are very easy to remove and check. Just move the seat fully back on the rails and remove the front bolts, then move it all the way forward to remove the rear bolts. The seat rails are attached to the floor by 6 bolts - you'll need a #50 Torx, IIRC, preferably a socket drive, to remove them and then you disconnect your wiring harness. I've had my Mystique re-welded at the break. Haven't pulled the SVT seat but guess I should get off my ass and do so . Regards, Alan
