It's about damn time. He's been nothing but dead weight for almost two full seasons. He's only had one full season out of the last three, and hasn't produced squat since his wrist injury. He's also locker-room poison. Now that his ego is gone, maybe we can concentrate on actually playing.

we need to replace Manny's lazy azz with a real athlete in left and we'll have a championship team.

no way dude..manny is a smart hitter..he puts up a lot better numbers then other player, plus if we lose him, take a wiiild guess who will pick him up, yes those dammn yankees!! I'm happy with this trade though, hopefully it'll do good to us and not turn out to be the "curse of nomar"

i am sorry, but Manny's attitude sucks. he may be an OK hitter, but his on-field antics, and laziness around the bags makes him a real loser in my mind.

Nomar wasn't going to be here next year anyway. Better to get something for him now than get nothing when he enters the free agent pool.
Miraculously, his heel has healed up just fine on the plane trip to Chicago. Way to go Nomar. Maybe he'll find what he's looking for there. In the meantime, looks like Yankee's fans were right, "Jeeeteerr's beeettteerr!"

If being an OK hitter is being one of the best hitters in the league....then - ok. lol.
Manny might be a lazy azz in the field - but his bat is sorely needed now that Nomar is gone. Even though Nomar hadn't really produced, we had one of the best 3-4-5 combo in the majors (aside from St. Louis' Albert Pujols, Scott Rolen and Jim Edmonds).
And Cabrera is a good replacement - but a downgrade at the plate - definate upgrade on the field - and who knows in the clubhouse. It should be exciting to see him and Pokey (if he ever friggin comes back) turn some doubleplays together!

I completely agree! By the sounds of it, the bridges were burned on both sides, and its best to have everyone move on to more important things.
I think we did a great job with this trade. True, his bat will be missed, but we've been burned way to much on our defense this year. This trade finally gave us a much needed 1st Baseman. Not just someone with a bat that can play first base, but an actual first baseman! We haven't had one of those for a while!
Also, sounds like things in the clubhouse have been going south with Nomar around. Everyone knows that a bad apple in the clubhouse can ruin the chemistry. We'll see how this all turns out in the next couple weeks.
How wierd must it have been for Doug Mientkiewicz to play with the Twins one night, and then turn around and play against them the next night.
I think the next couple of weeks will be very telling of the benefits/losses of the trade.
As for Manny, sure, he's lazy around the bases, but I think he's significantly improved in fielding the last couple seasons. Manny will be Manny, and anyway you cut it, that's one hell of a bat.
