Ok, I'm confused. So I found the part, but it's not the actual pump, just "fuel system components"?

Which one? The Focus Smart Pump is #3s4z-9h307-bc. It is the pump, basket ,etc. You will have to use the original Contour basket and swap the pumps. There are also some modifications you will have to do( but a mechanic will not do them). Try a search for "fuel pump service".

I'm having fuel issues also. My out of tank fuel filter was just canged a month ago or so, probably 3k miles ago now. The car starts up fine though, so I think my pump might be ok. When there is less than 1/4 tank, after making a turn, the car will start to accelerate fine and then stutter while trying to accelerate. It doesn't seem to matter if you back off or not. With a full tank it seems to be fine. I've been searching and reading through old posts trying to figure out if i'll need to replace the fuel pump or if it just needs a new filter/screen removal. I guess i'll be calling stealerships tomorrow to see if anyone has the FSVT fuel pumps in stock.
Another thought I had was that if the filter is clogged up, has it done any damage to the pump?
The pump is located under the rear seat right? Any tips for taking it out??

It sounds like the fuel pump. The screen gets fouled at the bottom, so as you get less fuel in the tank it can't draw. The pump(apparently) dies a slow death. It may still appear to be working, but not putting out as much fuel pressure under full load. Do a search under "fuel pump service" to find out how to replace.

I've read the how-to and i've been searching. I pulled up the seat today and found out my pump was replaced by the dealer when we had this problem before. The pump that is in the car is dated 4/01. Anyone know when they revised the pump??
I had to get the fp gasket ordered from the dealer (no one local had it) The gasket is supposed to come in wednesday morning.

FYI, I had a successful install. I forgot to take my camera, though.

Yeah, I was going to take pics of the FSVT pump swap stuff. If you look at the two parts, it's fairly easy to decifer what needs to get done, but pics are always good.

I can't believe how much better my car drives with the new fuel pump. I just thought it was running like crap because is was so hot outside. Now my CD player went out(I wanted to replace the stock POS anyway). I can't wait until next month to see what else breaks.

Why replace the whole pump when you can get a new sending unit and filter sock from BAT for around $80?
Hmm...
