Yeah, but I was in a time crunch. Got through the stealership here for $116. My mechanic agreed to install the FSVT pump with the modifications, but with the understanding that he won't guarantee it since it is altered and not meant for the Tour. I'll find out tomorrow how it works.

Once again....

The Focus SVT pump will drop into the Contour pump housing. There are NO modifications to be done.

Tell him to remove the round filter screen on the bottom of the housing.

I was told to use the black rubber mounts and cone shaped internal filter off the CSVT pump on the FSVT pump for a perfect fit, so that is what I instructed my mechanic to do.
Was this info incorrect? Do I need to call my mechanic?

My mechanic just called and said he would not install the FSVT pump in my Tour. I trust this guy, but he said that I would not get an accurate reading of the fuel level. He also said something about an additional wire on the FSVT pump or something.

Now here's the real question.. what's the best option for those of us stuck with the return-style pump?

Ford has an improved version for the Contour. It is costing me $230 because I have to have it today, but I be you could order it from Bill Jenkins for less. My mechanic said his biggest concern with the FSVT pump was the wiring. He said he would have to hack into my wiring an solder the correct fitting (i.e.- future fire hazard). If he simply "trimmed" the plug-in so it would work, that it would eventually work it way out. If your are a shade tree mechanic and have the time to adapt the FSVT pump then your are probably OK. If your are like me and use the car everyday and want it done right, then no mechanic will touch the FSVT pump. I'll let everyone know how the new countour pump works.

It sounds very much like this guy is using the whole pump assembly, which is incorrect. He needs to remove the pump itself from the Focus pump housing and put that into the Contour pump housing. By doing this, you will still be using the same fuel level sensor and will not get an inaccurate fuel level reading.

I just got it back. He said he would not alter the electrical connection. He did not even try to remove the pump from the basket so I could get a refund from Ford. He said the male/female connections are not the same. He would need to solder and splice the wires or trim and force them together. He would do neither.

Well, I'm still waiting for my pump to get here. I'll let you know if I run into the same kinda snags. Is your car fixed?
