That man, who is more man than any of us here, was Admiral Stockdale. If you read his books about his experiences in the Hanoi Hilton, you will a) know why I hold him in such high esteem, and b) never believe that that bumbling old butt-of-jokes was the same person. It was sad to see. Politics, I know, but sad, nonetheless.

I agree with that, and that's why I would support Rumsfeld, Wes Clark or Colin Powell for Secretary of Defense. Unfortunately, I don't think its enough to elect a president based on his war record. The President, while he IS CiC of the armed forces, is MANY other things as well. And while Kerry may have had "first hand experience" (though the real value of that experience is questionable, judging by his "reenactments" and his post-war actions), Kerry scares the hell out of me with his rampant indecision and FAR left leaning ideals.
He vowed to "fix healthcare"... how?! "Our health care plan for a stronger America cracks down on the waste, greed, and abuse in our health care system and will save families up to $1,000 a year on their premiums." You mean the waste, greed, and abuse that YOUR RUNNING MATE has helped propagate? And this sounds like a solid investment for the future: "And all Americans will be able to buy less expensive prescription drugs from countries like Canada." Sure, cut the profits of drug companies in third so that they can't afford to put R&D effort into developing NEW medicines to make our lives even better.
He invoked the Clintonian bubble... "And let's not forget what we did in the 1990s. We balanced the budget. We paid down the debt. We created 23 million new jobs. We lifted millions out of poverty and we lifted the standard of living for the middle class"... how do you plan to recreate that, John?
Talking about Edwards: "This son of a mill worker..." What does that have to do with.... anything?
"And we're going to return to fiscal responsibility because it is the foundation of our economic strength. Our plan will cut the deficit in half in four years by ending tax giveaways that are nothing more than corporate welfare" He's not going to cut the supposedly "inefficient" spending of the Bush admin... because spending is only bad when Republicans do it... but he's just going to cut out the tax breaks that help create corporate value across the US, that help companies stay in the black and keep their workers employed. Speaking of...
"Third, close the tax loopholes that reward companies for shipping our jobs overseas. Instead, we will reward companies that create and keep good paying jobs where they belong - in the good old U.S.A." He's missing the boat here... its not the "tax loopholes" that send jobs overseas, its the fact that the Dems' labor unions are choking corporate America to death, American workers are overpaid and underutilized, and the sheer cost benefit is so great that it overrides any tax break/penalty that might be assessed.
"We're told that outsourcing jobs is good for America. We're told that new jobs that pay $9,000 less than the jobs that have been lost is the best we can do." So John, you're telling me that you're going to cut out "corporate welfare", raise taxes on corporations and those that run them, and then STILL expect them to raise salaries by $9k per capita AND hire new people on top of that?! Wow, thats a beautiful fantasy world you're living in... now pass the PCP over here.
And BY FAR the funniest point of the night: "The story of people struggling for health care is the story of so many Americans. But you know what, it's not the story of senators and members of Congress. Because we give ourselves great health care and you get the bill. Notice he doesn't say that he plans to scale back the exhorbitantly expensive health care that is provided gratis for Senators... never would he take that nice perk away... he's just going to throw more money at the problem, the typical liberal solution. And how well will that work? Simple... It won't.

You may quote the "establishment clause" however, that by no way precludes elected officials, nor those appointed or hired bureaucrats from espousing a religious belief or even making policy based on those beliefs.
There is not constitutional requirement for the seperation of religious thought from government activity, period.

imo i saw the division of the country starting when bush was pushing for war in iraq. it was unclear why we need to go into iraq and what the plan was after we had removed saddam. this left a lot of room for people to start arguing. as CIC bush did not do a good job of bringing the american people to be united in our resolve for iraq as we were with afghanistan.

of course he's many other things, but in this time of war and terrorism it's his primary concern, so it's very relevant.

and how could this plan be worse than the bush healthcare plan... 
all in all the other points are all a wash. i think kerry did a great job of stating his positions and goals for our country in a very coherent manner...unlike the current CIC.
i have a feeling that listening to bush's speech at the RNC will be very comparable to listening to the gold medal winner's acceptance speech at the special olympics.

kerry's speach wasnt the most motivating but at least the public could follow his train of thought..
i miss the days of clinton's admin where the country could look forward to him addressing the nation, rather than waiting to catch his slip ups...
