There was a post on the cougar board about MSDS developing a cold air intake. Has anybody heard any specifics about this project?

I think I recall seeing on their site that they will do custom intakes. Check it out, http://www.msdsinc.com

Im the one that got the ball re-rolling on the MSDS intake system for the cougars.. You may want to drop them a line and see if they would like to develop for the contours also. They are really good like that. It wasnt the normal "I need 10000 people to order first, before I make anything".. They rock over there at MSDS, Inc.

MSDS does seem to be pretty cool about it. A few months back I noticed on their site that it says they'll do custom intakes. I asked if they have ever done one for a Contour in an e-mail. They responded saying they hadn't, but will do one if they can get someone to come to their shop. So if anyone that lives in California near them wants a different intake, go there and see what they can do for you (and us).

a contour system should be quite similar to the cougar system. mastamoon, does yours have a heat shield? I'd be in for something w/ more flow, but it must have heat shielding.

He has not yet disclosed what system he is trying to create. I asked him either for something in the fender well, or a new cold air box with some type of cold air draw tube or ram air. He says he already has the ideas to what he wants to try, now he just has to make it fit.. So my guess is as good as yours.. I only had 2 mandatory requests.. 1, correct IAT fitment. This he has figured out already. 2. No copy cat system like KKM/Injen/WeaponR etc... Must be a true intake system... He agreed.. Cant wait to hear what it is.. The suspense is killn me.

The headers won't fit 5000-5500 Contours ... the other NON SVT Contours/Mystiques/Contours will work just fine. Perhaps if SVT had engineered a REAL oil cooler, you wouldn't have a problem. If I where you, I would stop whining and tear out the half-assed attempt at a cooler and replace it with a real cooler. Perhaps one that sits in the air stream as opposed to being behind the radiator and cooled via hot radiator fluid.

Perhaps one that sits in the air stream as opposed to being behind the radiator and cooled via hot radiator fluid. Have to agree with you on this. It's only the vortech spec headers that don't clear the fittings on the "donut oil-cooler". MSDS was very responsive when the problem was brought to their attention. The number of owners that will use the blower is quite small compared to the huge number of non blowers. There are a lot of SVT owners that never knew (may still not know!) that their engine has this oil-cooler, so for MSDS to miss it is understandable. If I had already been in process of install when problem was discovered, I'd have been p.o.'d too, but the remedy is not that difficult or expensive, compared to the cost of the vortech system. Plus think of the extra peace of mind from havig an oil cooler that really works helping to keep your engine operating with the added stress of the blower

This flaw is quite minor compared to the Vortech returnless fuel system fiasco. It is understandable for Marty to no know about the cooler since it doesn't exist on the regualr Contour or Cougar. But for Vortech not to know that FORD switched to a returnless fuel system is absolutely unforgivable. How could they? Last I checked, the fuel system plays quite an important role in a SC system.
