"Perhaps if SVT had engineered a REAL oil cooler, you wouldn't have a problem."

FYI, SVT did not engineer the "doughnut" oil to water cooler, it was another Mondeo parts bin item for the cars sold to hot climates like the middle east. It is actually reported to be very efficient given its size. It works in conjunction with the thicker SVT radiator core (also a Mondeo part) to basically allow the oil to perform some of the cooling function - become an extention of the water cooling jacket so to speak. It also functions as an oil heater when the cars is cold to more rapidly get oil up to temp & flowing optimally. I would definately recommend readding some sort of oil cooler to cars that get supercharged with the heat they generate. BAT sells a remote oil to water cooler I believe.

I'm surprised it hasnt found its way to more non SVT engines. I guess this is good if they are planning supercharging.

Perhaps Terry could chime in here, but I remember hearing that about 60% of an engine's heat is already transfered to the oil, thus the engine oil is already cooling the engine. Could be wrong ... wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last, but I distinctly remember hearing this somewhere.

No, thats correct (not sure the %), I should have phrased things differently. Yes, the oil is involved in cooling the Duratec with or without a cooler. The ability to shed oil heat into the coolant/radiator core just improves this. The point was an oil to water cooler can be useful in 2 respects (warming cold oil and cooling warm oil) and can be pretty efficient. The oil to air cooler you are describing can only cool the oil, not help with initial warmup. But it works well too. Using both types of coolers works great for racing, some of the superTOURing guys do just that.
