1. Was the sock filter dirty when you cut the slit in it?
2. If it was you've got a lot of 'stuff' in the tank.
3. I also had the same IMRC problem in that after I cleaned my sock filter (mine didn't clog again), my IMRC failed - the cable broke.
4. I think the failure is because that with the fuel starvation issue, the secondaries hadn't opened for quite awhile, which cause quite a carbon buildup in the secondaries. When you fix the fuel problem, the secondaries open and jam. The cable tries to close them, and eventually breaks. That's my theory.
