Guys, don't buy the Injen intake. After getting tired of seeing my e/t's stay up in the 15.5 area even with 2.2xx 60' times and r/ts as good as .544, I decided to work on the SVT a little. I took apart may injen intake and was surprised to notice that inner diameter for the MAF adapter plate was about 1.2 CM SMALLER than the inner diameter of the MAF!!! No wonder my car felt dead @ higher rpms!! Could very well be that the engine just cant get enough air up high, which could be the reason my E/T slows once I hit 3rd gear.

Solution? First I went to the auto parts store and bought a drop in K & N filter #0996. No it wasn't a direct fit, but I liked the inner diameter of the intake opening and I liked the long conical shape. I modified the base plate to fit into my stock air filter box. Then, using my trusty Dewalt drill I put about five 3/4 in holes in the air box near where it fits into the fender. I also but three 1 in holes on the bottom of the air box. Result? Poor man's heat shield. I shortened the aluminum intake pipe provided in the injen kit (just like the BAT pipe) by about 2 inches so everything could bolt together and fit in easily.

I also wanted to mount a cold air scoop in th e front bumber, but after taking out the black cover underneath the front clip and looking around, I determined that there just is no room to run large enough duct work to feed the intake. The space in the fender is really tight. IMHO If you could run duct work , it would have so many turns in it that it would slow down the air and kill any ram effect. My short term solution was to just take out the dirver's side black plastic trim plate that is next to the oil cooler in the lower grill. That will at least flood the fender area with cooler air at speed.

The car is stronger now...I will probably take it out to the dragway again this weekend to see if I can break into the 15.3 range.

15.3? You'll be running a second quicker than my slow ass… You just trying to embarrass me? HAHAHA

I raced Eddie's 5.0 on the way back from the strip on 85 (Not too smart, since we both still had the numbers on our cars). We ran from 80-130, and we were dead even the whole way. I need to learn how to launch my car; I know it's faster than the numbers say.

If your going back out on Friday… let me know.

Yeah, mustangs don't seem as quick when you race'em at speed (high speed that is) smile I had a great time Friday....I'm gonna go ahead and plan on a repeat trip this Friday. Let's see if we can get some more SVT tours out there to represent!

Oh and your E/T's will drop with a little more practice....there have been guys on here that have run low 15s with very little mods...I guess they just launch well.

The strip we go to is in Commerce GA...Atlanta Dragway. From downtown, Take I-85 north to the Commerce, GA/Highway 441 exit...landmarks are the Tanger Outlet Malls. Exit the freeway and take a left. Go up two redlights or so and take a left by the pizza hut. Take your first right past the pizza hut....the dragstrip is down that road half a mile on the right. Its about an hour and 10 minutes from downtown, but well worth the drive. Lots of cars, and you get to run down the same lanes as John Force and company. Full 1/4 mile. Would be happy to meet up. Jason (BurgmanSVT) and I are going to go again this weekend. It would be cool to have more contours there!

Viva la tour!

I don't know...

Yesterday during my only trip down the track.

I was door to door with a 2001 Mustang for 1000 feet. Only at the top end did he start to pull away (when I quick shifted to 4th (6400), he pulled away noticably) Gave him a good scare. Next time though... laugh

Mustang ~ Me

60ft 2.26 ~ 2.35
330 6.40 ~ 6.42
1/8 9.70 ~ 9.81
mph 74.05 ~ 73.02
1/4 14.95 ~ 15.22
mph 93.3 ~ 91.05

It was 92+ degrees & almost 80% humidity (dewpoint in the low 70's!) at 1100 feet

One pass, no practice, banged the rev limiter in 1st & 2nd.

I also ran with the secondaries pinned open. (I have a bad IMRC - see other posts) So I used the high rpm slip launch... (4500-5000rpm clutch slip - It ROCKS!)

Like they said. Best fun you can have for $15...

i really need to figure out how to launch.
ran a 15.226 @ 93.637 w/ a 60' time of 2.586
so figure if i can get a decent 60' time i might just hit 14s. how cool would that be.
no matter what i do i get wheel hop, so on that run i just took off like i would driving around town, bogged so bad. and the shift to 2nd i got mad wheel hop.
such problems.
