On the hood the clear coat is falling off and I was wondering if there is a was to strip off only the clear coat and redo it, or is painting/replacing the entire hood the only way to go?
This car will be ridded of after college for a mustang so the cheapest repair meathods are the most sought after (live with it?)

Hmm...if the clear coat is peeling theres really isnt anything you can do about it. It will need to be repainted all over again. This is the worst thing anything would want on their vehicle to have any clear coat peeling. Everyone should always wax their car once in a while to protect this from happening.

Wax doesn't always help. I wax my car once every 3 weeks or so and my peeled off. Its because there was no heatshild on my hood, so the heat from my 2.0L just started eating it. I'd say live with it if you are going to sell it soon. I had mine repainted with my front bumper last year.

Hard to believe. I dont have any underhood insulation either, and my hood gets hotter sitting in the sun than from the engine. Mabye from waxing every 3 weeks, you managed to rub through the clearcoat.

my hood gets the hotest out of most being as it is black, but i just got a new hood so i dont have much to worry about

wax every 3 weeks??? Damn..no wonder! Like CRZYDRVR said you musta rub through too hard. I normally wax my car every 3-4 months and I use a ortibal soft buffer. Nothing too harsh. To have just the hood repainted shouldnt cost you more than $200. If you have friends who works in that business then youre in luck. That reminds me that I also need to have my front and rear bumpers repainted.
