Incase you guys havent seen this And i can make the runners shorter and fatter and the plenums bigger for you power hungry fi guys. Im also working on 2.5L and 3.0L upper intake manifolds.

How exactly did you arrive at that particular plenum size and runner length?

If you bellmouth the runners inside the plenum, that should help a good bit keeping flow smooth into the runners, resulting in power improvements across the board.

See if you can find a pic of the M5 intake manifold w/ the cover off (the outgoing V8, not the new V10, i've not seen its manifold details)

Well this manifold shown is actaully ordered up by the customer. He was a ford engineer and he knew exactly what lengths and cross section and plenum and everything else he wanted.

The trumpets are all radiused on the end but no bell mouths. We`re trying to keep cost at a premium here The only way to get a bell mouth done correctly every time is mill one out of billet with cnc equipment. Thats upwards of 30K just for the machine. That isnt good for you guys buying this stuff. Regaurdless they flow well for not being expected to run on an F1 circuit.

I use software to determine the lengths and the widths. Basically I have commited to memory about what will work with what application. N/A is pretty tricky. Its alot of compromising but in general the software I use will get me within 5%. So if you ask for a peak at 6500 you might get 6800 you might get 6200 most of the time its about on though.

FI is very simple however. Big short and alot. The plenum size could be as much as 4L (200 percent) as long as your not concerned with throttle response. For the most part the fi guys should stick with what I do for the n/a people on plenum size. Short runners about 5 inches and a step up in inner diameter pipe. This is a good streetable turbocharged recipe.

Anybody I know?

As far as sizing etc. I was just trying to make sure you weren't going "hmm, that looks about right"

and fwiw, I hear ya on the bellmouths, a good friend of mine (also a ford engineer) awhile back was spending a lot of time looking for pre-made ones he could weld on to his similar intake (for a 2.3T XR4Ti) I don't think he was ever succesful

anyone handy with a lathe can crank you out a few - would be very easy actually -

(ps - those welds look nasty )

I would have to agree on the bad weld appearance. At least there are not carbon trails all over them If he/she has 50 years experience I would expect alot more. I can tell where they did and didn't use filler rod by the shape of the beads. That there makes for a weak weld Considering you're selling manifolds I would strongly suggest you to pressure test them before selling or tell your welding buddy to step it up and make a better quality weld. I myself would never let anything out like that to someone...even if I had to machine off the welds. A good welder will never allow that out. I'm not trying to discredit you Travis just trying to help you out if I can.

I know weld appearence is bad, but this is his first one so I thought he done well. Hes changing his setup on quite a few things. Also I took into consideration the guy is 71 years old as of last tuesday.. That has to affect something Plus this isnt finished product. Its got to be sanded and cleaned. I was just posting let you guys see what I was doing with the project as id posted a couple weeks back.

travis -

No offence intended, hopefully none taken. I give you props for your work, I have many ideas in my head - but you've done them already - NICE
